As someone who moved to Genoa from the USA in the 80s, it was quite a bit of a culture shock! It took me a while to get into the "Italian" style of schooling, "not" staying in line, an obsession with 3 course meals and very specific fashion trends! It wasn't hard to fall in love with Genoa, a city that has evolved and changed a lot since then. My name is Marina and I’m Italian even though I wasn’t born here and moved around quite a bit in my younger years! After attending High School in Genoa, I returned when I was 28 and decided to set up camp in the historical center of this lovely city I now call home. I’ve worked as a translator and intrepreter my whole lfe, with a few stints of teaching and a passion for mindfulness. I am now also a fully licensed Italian Tour Leader and I’ve found I thoroughly enjoy sharing all that I love about Genoa and its people (as well as its flaws!). If you’re looking for an insider’s view on the city, local perspectives, and insights on lifestyle differences that Americans usually find amusing or admirable, then join me! Choose one of my tours of Genoa or the Riviera or allow me to craft one just for you, according to your interests and desires.

Portofino may be for the rich and famous, but where do everyday Italians go to enjoy the sun and sea? Join me for a relaxed and truly local experience as we explore Celle Ligure, one of Italy’s officially recognized most beautiful villages. This charming village is still relatively undiscovered by mass tourism, offering the perfect mix of beauty, charm, and authenticity. Stroll along colorful seaside promenade, explore delightful boutiques, enjoy a delicious local lunch, and treat yourself to award-winning gelato. And if the weather allows, have a swim or enjoy a walk on the beach! This is a perfect day trip for anyone who wants to experience the Italian Riviera as the Italians do.
- Scenic train ride to Celle Ligure (approx. 50 minutes) - Historic center. We'll wander through its picturesque alleys, browsing local shops and enjoying the authentic Ligurian atmosphere. - Seafood Lunch by the Sea - Seaside Promenade & Beach Time: stroll along the town’s elegant promenade all the way to the far end of the bay, and maybe enjoy a dip in the Mediterranean sea or in the cooler months a peaceful walk on the beach (weather permitting). - Scenic walk on the Passeggiata Romana (Roman walkway) for lovely views of the coastline. - Award-Winning Gelato Stop to try their signature basil-lemon gelato. - Train ride back to Genoa to reach preferred drop off point.
