Hello and "Grüß Gott"! If you are curious about my hometown, I would love to pass on my enthusiasm about this beautiful city to you! Having been born and raised in the south of Germany, I was lucky enough to have moved to Munich about 25 years ago. Ever since I have been living here with my husband and my two daughters. After having studied business administration I worked in the finance departments of International Companies in Dublin, London, and Stockholm. Wherever I could I joined locals to show me their home. Finally in 2014 I decided to completely change my life and to make my dream come true: To become a tour guide myself! I qualified with the Munich Tourist Board and trained to be a licensed guide for the Dachau Memorial Site. I love to interact with my guests, regardless of whether international tourist groups, school classes, short-term city hoppers, history buffs or culture seekers. It does not matter if you want to discover the well-known sites or to get to know the city off the beaten tracks. I will always help you to see behind the obvious. Because I also love to show Munich locals around their neighbourhoods, I do not merely focus on the historic city centre, but also on the different quarters which all have a certain appeal and tell you a lot about our city and its inhabitants. Being a big fan of Munich's "Gemütlichkeit" myself - this is what we call the feeling of relaxing in one of our traditional beer-gardens or socializing with friends in our beer halls - I am sure that we will be able to chat far beyond the Bavarian kings, the Munich Monuments or our city's rich heritage of history. I would be more than happy to turn your trip to Munich into an unforgettable experience. Looking forward to meeting you in Munich! Munich's reputation for its architectural heritage is well known. That is not surprising as the city was founded in the late Middle Ages and can display monuments through all important architectural periods. This light and easy stroll through Munich will take us past stunning facades, hidden courtyards, plenty of churches, fantastic squares, and iconic monuments. By taking a closer look at the individual structures we will deep-dive into Bavarian history. Unfortunately, Munich was hit by major destruction during World War II. But thanks to the local population's desire to rebuild their hometown, the cityscape today still reflects the charm and variety of former centuries. That's maybe the reason why Munich is not as famous for state-of-the-art modern architecture as other European cities. But you just need to know where to take a closer look and you will find spectacular contemporary treasures - sometimes right next to some of the oldest buildings in town. Let me take you along to look behind the obvious!
I am more than happy to pick you up from your hotel in the city or meet you on Marienplatz. Since most of the monuments will be in walking distance, we will be able to look at Munich's most stunning architectural highlights. During our tour we will pass - Munich's neo-gothic City Hall with the famous Glockenspiel - gothic Frauenkirche (Our Lady's Cathedral) - modern Ohel Jakob synagoge - the well-known Hofbräuhaus - baroque churches - our classical State Opera House - our Royal Residence, an architectural masterpiece of its own and - Odeonsplatz with its stunning Feldherrnhalle (Field Marshalls Hall) and picturesque Theatinerkiche. Don't be surprised to spot state of the art modern architecture such as our marvellous city quarter "Fünf Höfe" which was built into an old bank by Herzog and de Meuron architects. Be charmed by Olafur Eliason's masterpieces hidden between 19th century structures. And if you would like to take a break - don't forget that charming Viktualienmarkt is just around the corner.
