Having lived in Munich since the early 80s, I have been able to not only extensively explore all of the main attractions, as well as find some lesser-known hidden away tidbits, but have been able to learn all about the history of the city, from a small walled village to the world-famous city it is today. Let me take you to the places that not only took my breath away but helped me decide to make this my new home. Once I show you through Munich I believe you will share the fascination I have for this incredible city. As I am always flexible, we can see all the well-known places, or we can leave the beaten path and explore the back roads of the town, or a combination of everything. From huge city palaces to rooftop beer gardens, Munich has something for everyone. And the symbol of Munich - The Münchner Kindl - is to be found throughout the city, so as the adults bask in the history, the kids can try and spot the "Munich Child" on the way! Let me show you my Historical Home Town!
We will meet at the original City Center, Marienplatz, and get into learning about Munich, and its journey from Village to Metropolis. We will see the oldest church in Munich, and the largest (and oldest) open market in the city. We will also see and discover such things as the original city gates, dating back to the 1300s, The largest city palace in Germany, the site, and history of Hitler's first attempt to take power in Munich, The King's Square and its history, among other things. We can stop for a snack on the way, in a beer garden (weather permitting) or a visit in one of Munich's oldest, and most famous, beer hall, the Hofbräuhaus. We can also choose to have coffee and cake at one of the many wonderful bakery and coffee shops in Munich. Please note that smoe places may be seasonal, such as beer gardens, and the Marketplace and most stores are not open on Sundays and public holidays.
