I love Munich and the region around us, including the beautiful alpine lakes and the soaring cliffs of our Bavarian Alps! Munich is an architectural museum, a global economic and business outperformer, the home of world-class music of every kind, and the site of literally thousands of years of history, from the Celts to the Romans and Germanics, and through our 13 bad years of fascism into the modern era of peace and democracy. Let me tell you stories of triumph and tragedy, atrocities and atonement, kings and castles, and modern Germany - or any topic that occurs to you as we go. I have made it my business over the 40 years I have been resident here to live and breathe these topics every day. I would love to show you round this gem of a city or the picture-book sites in our neighborhood. Native English and fluent German. 40 years resident in Munich. Highly knowledgeable and experienced.

Lake Starnberg is less than 30 minutes by train and it is a paradise for walking, swimming, sipping a cappuccino or Aperol Spritz, and it offers stunning views to the Alps. Germany’s highest mountain, the Zugspitze, is clearly visible from the lakeshore. In summer, we will walk along the lakeshore, taking opportunities to relax and swim. Heading into the forest, we pass King Ludwig II‘s chapel (who visitors to Neuschwanstein Castle will know well by now) and on to the cruiser dock. Crossing the lake, we will be afforded picture perfect views of the Alps, before disembarking for a short walk to a beach with a grass recreation area, and then on to the beer garden. In winter, we will follow the summer route as far as Ludwig’s memorial chapel, then return via the same route back to Starnberg. However, I challenge you to a „polar plunge” in the extremely cold lake water anyway! We then decide whether to call it a shorter day and head back home, or to seek out food and refreshments in Starnberg.
I will meet you at your hotel and we will walk together to Munich Central Station for the 30 minute train ride to Starnberg. We will cross the lake by cruise boat, then visit a beer garden, or a cafe or restaurant, depending on your preference, and on the weather and opening times. We return from Tutzing by late afternoon or early evening.

Train to the lake and back, boat across the lake, and about 10 kilometers of walking.
