Join us on a private tour back in time to the vanished world of a bustling medieval town where merchants haggled with dukes and priests offered eternal salvation for the right price. On our tour you will discover Munich's surviving medieval architecture and handle items from day to day life while you examine many aspects of life in a medieval city from the power of the guilds, how law and order was maintained, the conflicts of religion and the disaster of the Black Death. Learn about the daily struggles of local citizens in the town and see the castle where the Emperor Ludwig IV kept court and ruled the Holy Roman Empire.
We begin our tour at Marienplatz, the heart of the city and the centre of commerce in medieval Munich before we proceed around the city centre looking at important sites within the old town linked to the medieval world such as the Cathedral with the tomb of Emperor Ludwig IV to the best preserved medieval gate in Munich where you will learn about how a walled city defence was organised and paid for as well as examining surviving local houses and looking at how regular people lived in this harsh yet colourful period.
