Hi. I was born in the heart of England and after graduating in history and archaeology from the University of Wales Bangor I spent a few years working as an archaeologist and historic conservator in some of the U. K's grandest castles and manors. I moved to Munich 12 years ago and since then I have worked as a tour guide covering all aspects of local history, from Munich's medieval origins to the Nazis. Over the years of working in I have developed a special interest in the local brewing history and beer drinking culture and as well as the history and palaces of the royal family. Medieval history and the early years of the Nazi's are also passions of mine. On my tours I love to look beyond the typical and delve more deeply into Munich's fascinating history and culture by showing my guests it's grandest palaces, hidden gems, traditional beerhalls and as much as we can squeeze in on a tour. My aim is to show you the best of Munich and provide for you an unforgettable day out. On your tour of Munich's Old Town, you'll wander through streets steeped in history and vibrant local culture. Admire architectural masterpieces like the iconic Marienplatz with its stunning Glockenspiel, the grandeur of the Neues Rathaus, and the historic Frauenkirche. As we stroll through bustling squares and quaint alleyways, you'll discover hidden gems, local shops, and charming beer gardens while you will learn about the captivating stories of Munich’s rich heritage, including its royal past and artistic legacy, ensuring a memorable experience that captures the essence of this beautiful Bavarian city. Of course Munich's darker history will not be ignored and you will learn about the origins of the Nazi party and see important sites such as the birthplace of the party and where the Beer Hall Putsch came to its violent end. Whether you're a history buff or simply looking to soak in the local atmosphere, this tour offers a delightful glimpse into Munich's heart and soul.
I will meet you at the Marienplatz at 10.45 by the famous Fish Fountan before we begin with the history of the sqaure then watch the Glockenspiel play. Afterwards we will walk through the medieval heart of the city visiting the most important sites such as the Frauenkirche Cathedral and the Viktualienmarkt food market but also see the hidden gems of the city that most tourists pass by. Winding north we will explore the courtyards of the Residenz palace plus see the very spot Hitler came close to being killed in his failed 1923 coup, the Beer Hall Putsch. Finally we will end at the spectacular Odeonsplatz (My favourite sqaure)
