I have worked in the Scottish tourist industry since leaving the regular army in 2005, I have a first class degree in Scottish History, and a Higher National Diploma in tourism & Leisure.

Edinburgh's Old Town is the heart of the city: the ancient thoroughfare of the Royal Mile, today bustling with souvenir shops and pubs, runs from Edinburgh Castle at the top of the hill all the way down to the Royal Palace of Holyroodhouse at the bottom.

Our route takes us from the castle, by way of Greyfriar's Kirkyard and Greyfriar's Bobby, downhill towards the palace. The Mile is lined with historic buildings and flanked by narrow, dark alleyways or 'closes': a walk down the Royal Mile is a walk through history. There will be plenty of tall tales of famous, and infamous, former residents along the way, as well as an opportunity to learn what life was like in the cramped and lets be honest, not always fragrant medieval city!

Braveheart, Rob Roy country & Glencoe

- We start our day heading into "Braveheart country", and a visit to Stirling Castle, the battlefields of Bannockburn and a visit to some iconic Highland cattle.

- Then into Rob Roy country and the National Park of "The Trossachs" for some lunch, we head then along the banks of Scotland's only lake towards the "Carse" of Stirling and home to Edinburgh
