There is a lot more to Philadelphia than Ben Franklin, cheesesteaks, and the Liberty Bell. Philly is a living history lesson filled with stories, conflicts, food, and defiance. IT'S THE BEGINNING OF AMERICA. The Declaration of Independence from the Crown. The first capital of the United States. The first protest for the abolition of slavery. Home of the first to knock out Mohammad Ali. That is what exists in the city of Brotherly Love. If coming to Philadelphia, whether it is a long layover, weekend getaway, or your a Sunday Historian; booking a tour with me is not simply learning a few facts but your first step in becoming a Philadelphian. This is your introduction. From Betsy Ross' House to the churches of Fishtown and onward to the Calle de Oro. You will see it all. I look forward to being your guide. Aww Right! This tour focuses on important moments in the city's history and juxtapose it to the lives of various ethnicities. Beginning with a brief glimpse at the lives of the original inhabitants of Coaquannock (Philadelphia) followed up with the creation of William Penn's "green country towne". Jumping forward two years after Penn's arrival, we explore both slavery and it's aftermath both in and around Philadelphia. As we approach modern times we explore the circumstances and roles other ethnic communities had in creating Philadelphia. Some of the topics covered: Lenape (Delaware) Tribe - William Penn/Quakers - First Slaves - Black Founding Fathers (Liberty Bell/Independence Mall photo stop) - Society Hill/Washington Square - Chinatown - Before and After Civil War - Industrial Revolution/Great Migration - Civil Rights/Race Riots - Current Events
-Starting in Penn's Landing we will trace the history of the city while making stops at: George Washington's Presidential Home, Carpenter's Hall, Society Hill, Chinatown, Old Southwark, Penn's Landing, and wrap up at Reading Terminal for lunch.
