I have lived and worked in the Philadelphia region all of my life and have always been passionate about promoting Philadelphia's unique history. After taking early retirement from DOD, I developed my "2nd Act" as a tour guide and found a true calling. 18th century history has been my love since I was a child. Working in Philadelphia allows me to continue discovering our nation's beginnings. I have been guiding for nearly 12 years and it has proven to be a wonderful opportunity to interact with visitors from here and across the world. I consider myself a Philadelphia ambassador and love to showcase our great city and the surrounding areas. I believe that telling the stories of the people who worked and lived here is the best approach to guiding and will be a more memorable visitor experience. I live now in a unique South Jersey town that had its beginnings started by an 18th century Philadelphian so I love to expand my stories and tours to South Jersey as well. I am happy to customize any of my tours if possible. No woman signed the Declaration of Independence. And no woman was asked to debate and create the Constitution. Yet the women of Philadelphia were driving forces in giving birth to our nation. Come join me as we walk through the historic areas of Philadelphia. But with this tour, we will "remember the ladies" as Abigail Adams asked of her husband. Our tour is designed to talk about the stories of these women and how they coped with not only the rigors of everyday life in the colonial world but how they contributed to the politics and the shaping of America. Our walk begins with Pennsylvania's first and still only female Governor, Hannah Penn. We stroll through Old City and discuss the working women and continue to the President's house where two first ladies lived, as did an enslaved woman who defied Washington. We end with the very wealthy and well connected and tour the original home of the premier hostess of her time, Elizabeth Willing Powel.
I will meet you at the agreed upon location as we begin our informative Walk Tour - Welcome Park - Elfreth's Alley - Betsy Ross - Franklin Court - President's House - Dolly Todd House - Peggy Shippen House - Powel House Please reach out with any questions at all or to customize this tour.
