I am passionate about American History, and am excited to share the large, immersive, outdoor classroom of Center City Philadelphia with you. I am a former Professor of Early American History, a docent at Carpenters Hall, a volunteer with the Independence Historic Trust, and a Research Fellow of the First Continental Congress. I have been a volunteer guide at Powel House, Washingtons Crossing, Moland House, and Laurel Hill Cemetary. I believe that the story of our country is built upon the people, the stories, and the struggles of our founders. I thrive on talking about these amazing people, and will be excited to show the specific sites that define our past. I also believe that an awesome tour stays with you forever. I promise not to download dozens of dates and facts that will be forgotten in a few days. My goal is to amaze you with the stories that teach, explain, and instill you with the same pride that I feel every time I walk through this most amazing city. Welcome to Philadelphia - home to America's first and oldest art museum. As a prelude to our Philadelphia Museum of Art visit, we are going to start at the Second Bank of the U. S. which houses the US Portrait Gallery of our Founding Fathers (housed within an amazing Greek Revival building in our National Independence Historic Park, built by William Stricklad). You will visit the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, founded in 1805 and home to an amazing collection of early American art housed in the Frank Furness building (highlights include the grand staircase, George Washington Lansdowne Portrait, Penn Treaty Hicks painting, Chalres Wilson Peale self-portrait). At the Philadelphia Museum of Art, we are going to see all of the highlights, with a focus on Early American Art (one of the most impressive collections of Portraits, furniture, and artifacts in the country). You'll enjoy the Peter Paul Rubens Constantine tapestries, the collection of Medieval Art and armour, the Hindu Temple and LOTS MORE.
After we meet, we will cover the following: - US Portrait Gallery at the Second Bank of the U. S. - The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts - Barnes Museum (OUTSIDE ONLY) - The Rodin Museum - The Philadelphia Museum of Art * Itinerary can be customized upon request. Feel free to message me.
