The who's who of Chicago society left the south side because the smell of the Chicago Stockyards made the Near Northside of the City, adjacent to the beautiful lakeshore an ideal place to build their grand townhome. Michigan Ave is our starting point past the most famous remnant of the Great Fire. We will have the opportunity to visit two museums, one very old & grand and the other very modern. Traveling further we will see a pier built a mile out in the lake, housing a carnival of events. Nearby we will see the architectural creations of a modern master. We will visit a street that is the epitome of class & privilege, magnificent homes built by every major architect. We will see a one-of-a-kind street built by an artist for artists, leisurely explore an area laid out like a village. Stopping for lunch at a spot Sinatra frequented and Martha Stewart loves. On to lush gardens & a zoo! Finishing, where butterflies come to life before your eyes! Join me and experience a part of Chicago and relive the past!
Drive down Michigan Ave past the famous Water Tower & other highlights. - See Navy Pier & contemporary architecture. - Tour Astor Street and its great homes & see the inside of a Louis Sullivan Treasure. - Continue down an alley of wood to The Chicago History Museum. Leaving we will visit an architectural gem then off to a village in the city, I know well by exhibiting in their Art Fair for 20 years. - Lunch with the locals. - Leaving by car to the only free zoo in America surrounded by a Grand Conservatory & sumptuous gardens. - Visit a ecological treasure of ponds, lilies and fish restored to its old glory. - Across the street we will go to The Nobart Nature Museum to a special room to have newly born butterflies flutter around and land on you! - Drive back *If you have a specific itinerary in mind send me a message and I'll customize the tour for you.
