Hi—I'm Kelli, a Ph.D., tour guide, and public speaker who helps visitors and residents discover Chicago through film. In "Ferris Bueller's Day Off," three suburban teenagers skip school, drive into Chicago, and explore well-known sites like Sears Tower, Wrigley Field, and the Art Institute of Chicago. The scene that takes place inside the Art Institute of Chicago lasts only 2 minutes. But it is one of the most memorable in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off." That's why I've created an entire tour around it. (Yes, really. ) Are you ready to experience firsthand the artwork and hear behind-the-scenes stories that inspired one of the most famous scenes in Chicago-based cinema?
We had the best time. Kelli was fun and insightful. We are locals and have been to the Art Institute a couple of dozen times and this was our best trip. Highly recommend, makes for a great afternoon to spend with friends (like Ferris).
We thoroughly enjoyed our tour with Kelli. She clearly has a passion for and deep knowledge of the subject matter and was able to answer all sorts of quirky questions we threw at her. She was very thoughtful about our experience (e.g., making sure to give us breaks to sit, checking to make sure we were good with climbing stairs, etc.). We were traveling with an 11 and 14 YO and she did a great job of keeping them engaged. And she just has a lovely energy/was fun to hang out with for 90 minutes!
This was a wonderful, fascinating and fun tour with Kelli! We did this with our kids ages 9-16 and, even though they had not seen the movie, she was able to get allmof them enthusiastic about the tour. By the end, they all wanted to watch Ferris Bueller as soon as possible. As for us parents, it was a great trip down memory lane.
Our family of four booked the Ferris Buehler's Day Off art tour with Kelli on our trip to Chicago in early December. Kelli was a wonderful guide! She navigated seamlessly around the museum to show us the works of art featured in the movie and provided insight about Hughes' choice of paintings for the movie and even showed us paintings we might have missed without her guidance. She interacted very well with our school-aged children. The tour was the perfect length and so much fun to experience!
What an amazing tour!!! Kelli Marshall is incredibly warm, friendly and intelligent. We contacted Kelli in advance of our tour and mentioned some things that we hoped to see, specifically locations from movies made in Chicago, also outdoor art and The Art Institute of Chicago. She tailored our walking tour in the area around The Art Institute in such a great way that included many things we discussed seeing plus many more locations & art of great interest that we didn't expect. Kelli knows her stuff!
You'll start with a short history of the Art Institute of Chicago. Then, you'll spend the rest of your tour moving in and out of galleries, looking at the artwork featured in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" and hearing facts, stories, and quotes about the 1986 American teen comedy. In total, you'll visit 3 floors of the museum, see 15 pieces of art, and leave with an appreciation of the works, their relationship to characters, and their placement in the camera's frame. *This tour does not include admission to the Art Institute of Chicago.

Walking tour. You can arrive to the meeting point either: By Car: The Millennium Garages are located underground, below the parks adjacent to the museum. Public Transit: The Brown, Green, Orange, Pink, and Purple 'L' train lines all stop above ground at Adams/Wabash, one block west of the museum.
