Greetings from Chicago! My name is Colm and I'd love to show you around my favorite city! I am a certified tour guide and enjoy meeting new people who wish to share my passion for Chicago's architecture and history. I have lived in Chicago for most of my adult life although I originally hale from Dublin, Ireland, so I know how to tell a story! I empathize with travelers because I'm a keen traveler myself and always hire a guide in a foreign place to discover its secrets, learn its history, and hopefully be entertained! In turn, I pride myself on revealing the real Chicago, avoiding some of the crowded tourist traps and offering a way to get to know the city's famous places more intimately. Overview of your Chicago tour
Chicago was home to the the world's first skyscrapers and on this tour we will explore and go inside some of the best examples of these great buildings. We will start along Historic Michigan Avenue and take in an old Athletic Club, then tour the Loop area by foot going inside buildings from the 1880's and 1890's, as well as Art Deco buildings from the the Roaring Twenties. If you like we will stop for coffee and pastries at the half way point and discuss the places we have visited. This tour can easily be extended if you'd like to take in some additional fantastic architecture. This tour is best experienced on weekdays as most buildings are open, however it is also available on weekends with limited access to some buildings.
Your Chicago tour itinerary
Start time is flexible so happy to tailor this to travelers needs. - We will meet in the lobby of the Chicago Athletic Association at 12 S. Michigan Ave. If you prefer me to meet you at your downtown hotel lobby that is possible. - After a brief introduction and tour of this building we will set out on foot to see a number of early skyscrapers. - At the half way point we can stop for coffee and pastries (lunch if needed) to break up the walk. - After our pit-stop we can continue to tour the downtown area and adjust the tour based upon your own specific interests. - Total tour time is approximately 2. 5 hours and we will end up at The Chicago Cultural Center or back at your Downtown hotel if you prefer.
