Greetings from Chicago! My name is Colm and I'd love to show you around my favorite city! I am a certified tour guide and enjoy meeting new people who wish to share my passion for Chicago's architecture and history. I have lived in Chicago for most of my adult life although I originally hale from Dublin, Ireland, so I know how to tell a story! I empathize with travelers because I'm a keen traveler myself and always hire a guide in a foreign place to discover its secrets, learn its history, and hopefully be entertained! In turn, I pride myself on revealing the real Chicago, avoiding some of the crowded tourist traps and offering a way to get to know the city's famous places more intimately. Overview of your Chicago tour
Chicago is known for its skyscrapers and Louis Sullivan is often referred to as the father of skyscrapers! Frank Lloyd Wright called him his "Lieber Meister" (German for "Beloved Master"). On this private tour, I will take you by car to see many of the best Louis Sullivan designed buildings in the city The tour starts from your hotel with a discussion about Sullivan's background and philosophy on architecture. From there we will drive around the city visiting many of Sullivan's great remaining buildings in the Chicago area. Along the way I will discuss the history and design of each building. Where permitted we will make several stops allowing you to get out and take pictures of the various buildings.
Your Chicago tour itinerary
- I will collect my guests at their location in my car. - We will then drive around to visit approximately 10 buildings designed by the great architect. - Depending on timing and traffic I will add or drop buildings from the tour. - The tour does not include entry to any buildings but we will stop and walk around a couple of the buildings (weather dependent). - Along the way, I will be discussing the architecture of Louis Sullivan and point out important buildings in Chicago designed by his contemporaries and students. If you are interested in touring any of the buildings I can provide separate tour information. Please send me a message if that is the case! Start time is flexible so happy to tailor this to travelers needs. Total tour time is approx 2. 5 hours and at the end of the tour I will drop guests back to their location of choice if possible.
