Hi there, and welcome. I hope you are looking forward to your visit to London. So many people call London home but like many of them, I was not actually born here. London always called to me growing up in the East Anglian countryside. At the turn of the millennium, I finally made the move. And I have never looked back! Working initially running a chain of bars in Soho, I was engrossed by the history of the city. The vibrant mix of people (both residents and tourists) and cultures have held my fascination for nearly 20 years now. I moved on from working in bars to become a chef. I worked in some of London's finest hotels, all the while reading up and exploring all London had to offer. With the arrival of my young family, I wanted more flexibility in my work life balance. I decided to take on one of my greatest challenges yet. I was to study 'The Knowledge' to become a Licensed London Taxi Driver. Learning so much to pass these exams whetted my appetite for more. I was soon studying again. This time to become a Green Badge London Taxi Guide with The Worshipful Company of Hackney Carriage Drivers. People that have taken a tour with me comment on my enthusiasm, which I take as a great compliment. I do admit that it is not hard as there is so much to love about London. I like to think that living and working in different areas in London for the last 20 years gives me an insight different from many other tour guides. It gives me great pleasure to be able to share my unique experiences with people visiting this great city. I also love to hear some of the stories my customers share with me. You never stop learning. Most recently I have taken myself back to the classroom to improve my amateur Photography. This tour covers many of London's most famous sites. Some walking may be necessary to take advantage of the best viewpoints. After collecting you, you will be introduced to London. From the perspective of a knowledgeable guide who knows the city like few others. Tracing back London's near 2000 year history to it's foundation. From the Romans through its development and growth into the City it is today. You will see many hidden gems and discover how the city grew. London truly is one of the best cities in all the world. Visiting all the world-renowned sites, this is an excellent and informative way to spend a day in London. From Westminster Abbey to The Tower of London, Marble Arch or Tower Bridge I will entertain you with facts and tales of the great history linked to each monument. Flexibility is key and if there are specific requests for particular sites I will endeavour to include these in your tour where possible.
Alex was a great guide for our full day tour in London. We only had one day and Alex was able to show us most of the important landmarks. He is very cordial and has a vast knowledge of London and English history. Would highly recommend Alex and tours by Locals. It was our third reservation with TBL and all were outstanding!
Alex was knowledgeable and friendly. That is knowledgeable with a capital K. The one place we got to see more than just a view of was the Guild Hall, which I had never heard of before, but which is well worth visiting. We managed the heavy London traffic with no issues at all, he’s an excellent driver. Will certainly look up Alex again the next time we’re in London.
Alex has amazing energy and a depth of knowledge which filled our wonderful day. We saw corners of London not on the usual tours. Every step was guided with skill and every need anticipated. He shared many unique stories. We were able to feel the pulse of the city!
WOW!!! Alex provided us with an OUTSTANDING bespoke city highlights tour that perfectly accommodated our timing (he dropped us at a theatre in time for our musical), requests (we wanted to see things we weren’t specifically visiting during our holiday), interests (for a former world history teacher!) and abilities (Alex knew that my 86-yo uncle would be in attendance with a walker and he provided a few stops that Uncle navigated easily). Alex is a brilliant historian and communicates complex history with excellent context and timelines. And he’s funny! And an amazing driver on some crazy city streets! I can’t say enough. Alex’s tour will no doubt be the highlight of our weeklong London visit.
Alex picked us up at our hotel for the 2nd day of our tour with him. Alex allowed us to customize the tour as we wanted to walk through Westminster Abbey, visit the Tower of London, see the Crown Jewels and visit a pub. In addition, he stopped at many other sites for us to take pictures before returning us to our hotel. All the while providing us with an education about the Royal Family and London history. Alex did an amazing job with this Tour of London for our group of 11. He spent a lot of time communicating with me prior to the tour to make sure it would meet our expectations. Alex is funny, knowledgeable, and very professional. We had the best day in London and got to see so much. I highly recommentd taking a tour with Alex.
I will collect you from your hotel or another agreed Central London location, and escort you to my London Taxi. From here we will start on a circular route encompassing all the main sights, including: - Buckingham Palace (We will try to include changing of the Guard if you so wish. This takes up to 90 minutes on foot and takes place most days during the summer) - The Palace of Westminster - The Tower of London - St Paul's Cathedral - Tower Bridge - St James' Palace - Kensington Palace - Big Ben - Roman London - many more. These are a combination of drive by and walk pasts rather than entry into as this is an overview tour. I will answer as many questions as I can whilst explaining the history and story behind each sight. We will stop many times so that you can take pictures We will stop for lunch during this full day tour. This will be arranged after you have booked.
