Hi, my name is Nigel. I am a former History teacher and have been a tour guide in the UK for over 10 years. I believe tour guiding is about sharing knowledge, experiences and stories and having lots of fun along the way! I studied British and American History and Politics at university and have a passion for the history and culture of both countries. I have been very fortunate to have travelled to over 80 countries and have met some remarkable people and some amazing tour guides. I recently worked with the one and only Rick Steves, advising him on his London Travelogue and the next edition of his London Guide Book. I really enjoy creating opportunities to explore the amazing places in London and the South of England and meeting and speaking with locals and gaining an insight into their way of life. London has been my home for the past 30 years and I have a real passion for this incredible global city. There is so much to experience on foot and by using the excellent public transport system. If you are nervous about using the Tube (the subway) or the buses, fear not, I will help you navigate your way to the myriad of wonderful places that London has to offer. If the capital city is your focus, we can tour around the historic sights linked to the British Royal Family in Westminster, explore the ancient City of London with its Roman origins, hear stories of its colourful history and enjoy its spectacular architecture. You can experience the Tower of London, Westminster Abbey, the Houses Of Parliament, Buckingham and Kensington Palaces, Trafalgar Square, Piccadilly Circus, St Paul's Cathedral, The Southbank, the West End and the East End. My aim is to design a unique, customised tour for you and your fellow travellers. We will tour at a pace to suit you and I am always happy to customise tours and make adjustments to ensure you have a wonderful time on vacation. Outside the capital city, England has so many great places to visit. It's a wonderful country to be a guide as there is so much history and life on the streets of every town and village. There are also a wide range of stunning places just a short journey from Central London. I run single Day Tours to Royal Windsor and Hampton Court using professional drivers or, if preferred, local trains. If you have an interest in World War II, the Churchill War Rooms, the RAC museum at Hendon, the Battle of Britain Bunker in Uxbridge and Fighter Command HQ are also well worth a visit and within easy reach of central London. For those wanting to experience London's range of gastronomic delights, I offer walking tours to some of London's Historic Pubs and Borough Market with its huge range of international street food. I am really looking forward to meeting you and sharing the many rich experiences that this country can offer. Hope we can make this happen soon! Here are my formal qualifications:- - Bachelor of Arts Degree Joint Honours in History and American Studies (Keele University) - Certificate in Education (Teaching Degree, Keele University) : History and Physical Education I have Public Liability Insurance. There are a small number of historic sites where I am not licensed to guide however there are official "live" guides or audio guides available at the this sites.

Overview of your London tour

We travel with a professional driver out to visit some of the most picturesque Cotswolds villages and Oxford or Blenheim Palace. I have been visiting the Cotswolds since I was a child and its beauty never disappoints. This customised tour includes visits to a selection of picture postcard Cotswold villages. We will see cottages, churches and pubs built with local stone in this area of outstanding natural beauty. Also, villages with links to the world of TV and film, like Downton Abbey, and other unspoilt villages on the back roads well off the beaten track. After some lunch in a pub or cafe, we head into Oxford to explore this university 'City of Dreaming Spires' with its colleges, parks, castle and indoor market, there is much to discover and those interested in history, culture and Harry Potter will not be disappointed. We return to London early evening. An alternative to Oxford is to visit Churchill's birthplace, Blenheim Palace. An impressive stately home on a grand scale

We had a memorable, enjoyable day exploring the Cotswolds and Oxford. Nigel was informative, entertaining, and genuinely wonderful with my family of five. I’ve gone on a fair amount of private tours, but Nigel is one of the very best. I would absolutely recommend him for any London trip.

Nigel and our driver, Paul, were wonderful escorts for the day. While they were everything one should expect from guides - knowledgeable, efficient, well planned and concerned for our wishes - they are also just nice guys. Conversations ran the gamut. They were both enthusiastic and enjoyable. While the Cotswolds and Oxford were worthwhile destinations, we will remember Nigel and Paul long after Cotswold cows fade from our memories.

Your London tour itinerary

Here is a typical day. Tours can be customised to suit your needs - Pick up in London and travel 1. 5 hours to visit the medieval village of Burford, Gateway to the Cotswolds. Spend time exploring the village. Lots of wonderful photo opportunities here! - Next stop, Bibury, 15 minutes away, described as the "most beautiful village in England" and then there is a choice of so many villages - busy Stow-on-the-Wold, peaceful Lower Slaughter, Bourton-on-the-Water with its shops and cafes and Bampton where scenes from Downton Abbey were filmed. - Following lunch, we head for Oxford and there is an option of a walking tour including Christ Church College, The Radcliffe Camera, The Divinity School, historic museums, churches and pubs, a castle and an indoor market. - There is also the option of visiting magnificent Blenheim Palace, close to Oxford, ancestral home of the Duke of Marlborough, where you can experience a British stately home at its most impressive. - Journey back to London (1. 5 hrs) early evening
