Step back in a time when nightly air raid sirens were the norm and Britain stood alone against a formidable foe. Discover the nerve centre of wartime Britain: The Churchill War Rooms & Westminster. We'll explore the secret bunker where decisions that shaped history were made. You'll witness the place where Churchill led War Cabinet meetings, spoke to President Roosevelt using groundbreaking technology & strategized the path to victory. You'll feel the tension in the Map Room, where every movement of ships and troops was meticulously tracked. As we resurface, we'll imagine Parliament Square ringed with barbed wire and see the scars of the Blitz on buildings to this day. We'll also explore Whitehall to see how Londoners braved the Blitz and the Royal Family's role in bolstering national spirit, as we finally envision the jubilant throngs when peace finally returned. Combines easily with my London and St. Paul's Cathedral in the Blitz for a full picture of London at this pivotal moment in history.
-Starting in the Churchill War Rooms, we'll visit the War Cabinet Meeting Room & The Trans-Atlantic Telephone Room before exploring the award winning Winston Churchill Museum. -Then we will see the Churchill Suite and the area known as the "scoreboard of the war", The Map Room. -After emerging from the War Rooms, we'll visit various key sites in Westminster during World War II. -We'll start at Westminster Abbey and Parliament Square, discussing how people fared during The Blitz. -Then we'll visit Whitehall with the Prime Minister's residence, 10 Downing Street, The Cenotaph & The Women of WW2 Monument. -Next we'll discover something very rare, the only Nazi grave in London, and see Charles de Gaulle's home during the war. -Afterwards, we'll visit the memorial to King George VI & Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, looking at their extraordinary contributions to the war effort. -We'll finish at Buckingham Palace, the scene of great celebration at the end of the war on VE Day and VJ Day. (Customizable).
