Hi there! I'm Neil and I've lived in the Highlands of Scotland almost all my life. More than 8 generations of my family have been born and bred here and my clan, The Munro clan, is one of the largest in the area - you don't get all that without picking up a bit of local knowledge in the process!! I can driver-guide you on any tour you'd like to take from castles to distilleries, amazing views to quiet beaches and the famous Loch Ness to the scenes of Outlander, Scotland has it all. Local knowledge and stories that they don't always put in the history books really make the places we visit come alive and will stay with you for years to come. I will collect you from your accommodation, whether that's central or rural, or directly off your cruise ship from the ports of Invergordon, Edinburgh, Portree or Ullapool and return you there at the end of your tour. I drive an air conditioned, 8-seater Mercedes-Benz with leather interior, privacy glass and charging points for your convenience. Travelling this way ensures that everyone is comfortable, has unrestricted views and your tour is personal, friendly and allows access to some of the less visited gems that Scotland has to offer. I love the challenge of tailoring bespoke tours to my passenger's needs so don't be afraid to ask for something different! I've lived and breathed Scotland's history, culture and heritage for most of my life and it's my love for my country that I enjoy sharing with others. I've worked in the tourism industry for over 15 years guiding walks and tours and hosting visitors to our area. I'd love to help you make memories of Scotland that will last a lifetime, all you have to do is sit back and enjoy your tour! ToursByLocals guide since 2019 and have worked in the Scottish Tourism industry for the previous 15 years. Member of the Scottish Independent Tour Operators Association (SITOA). Member of the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM). I don't have any restrictions on my tour.

Overview of your Inverness tour

I've been holidaying to the Isle of Skye since I was just a wee boy, and with it only being a 2hr drive from Inverness, it makes for an amazing day out! The clear, clean waters and rugged landscape of Skye need no introduction and on this tour, you get to experience them first hand. From the island's capital of Portree to the amazing rock formations of the Trotternish peninsula and the breath-taking Cuillin mountain ranges, you'll be well advised to have your camera handy! As if this wasn't enough, our journey from east coast to west coast is one of the most beautiful journeys in the Highlands. We have Urquhart Castle on the banks of Loch Ness, the Five Sisters of Kintail mountain pass, the infamous Eilean Donan Castle and it's history of secrets and much more. I love this tour! As it's a full day, it gives plenty of time to get the craic* with my customers and let them in on all the Highland stories. *Gaelic for good conversation, gossip or a laugh!

We had an absolutely fantastic time with Neil from Whisky and Tweed on our tour and highly recommend him as a tour guide! He had so much historic and local knowledge, and delivered it in such a fun and engaging way. It felt like he was as excited to show off the Highlands as we were to experience them, which makes for the perfect guide! Thank you so much Neil for making it such an incredible day!

We had a fabulous day with Neil! Even with rainy weather, we still managed to have a perfect day and see so many things. Neil kept us entertained with great stories, many facts and we even had time to do some shopping.

This trip with Neil to the Isle of Skye was the highlight of our time in Scotland. Neil was also the right guide to be spending ten hours with as he’s easy going; has a great sense of humor; and, and is thoroughly informed about the Highlands. Neil paced our time perfectly so that we could include all the things we wanted to see and was always considerate of our preferences.

This was an excellent tour in every way. Neil was a gracious and informative guide. He provided important details about the geography and the history of the Isle of Skye that were very helpful for first time travelers to that area. The timing of our stops was well-planned, providing adequate time without feeling rushed. When an unplanned detour impacted our return route, Neil made the most of the opportunity to share about some sights that we would not have otherwise seen. His light humor and eagerness to provide answers to our questions was appreciated. We would highly recommend Neil to others.

We had a wonderful time with Neil, even though it rained most the day. He was very knowledgeable and told some good stories along the way. We had a wonderful day trip to the Isle of Skye and Neil made it so much more enjoyable than trying to tour by ourselves. I would definitely recommend Neil as a wonderful tour guide. It will make your Scotland vacation that much more memorable and enjoyable!

Our tour guide was Neil Munro & he was amazing! Definitely the best tour guide we have ever had (& we have a done a lot of tours). Superb historical information as we travelled for 2 full days with him around the Isle of Skye. He was enjoyable to be with for 2 full days. I would highly recommend Neil
