Hi there! I'm Neil and I've lived in the Highlands of Scotland almost all my life. More than 8 generations of my family have been born and bred here and my clan, The Munro clan, is one of the largest in the area - you don't get all that without picking up a bit of local knowledge in the process!! I can driver-guide you on any tour you'd like to take from castles to distilleries, amazing views to quiet beaches and the famous Loch Ness to the scenes of Outlander, Scotland has it all. Local knowledge and stories that they don't always put in the history books really make the places we visit come alive and will stay with you for years to come. I will collect you from your accommodation, whether that's central or rural, or directly off your cruise ship from the ports of Invergordon, Edinburgh, Portree or Ullapool and return you there at the end of your tour. I drive an air conditioned, 8-seater Mercedes-Benz with leather interior, privacy glass and charging points for your convenience. Travelling this way ensures that everyone is comfortable, has unrestricted views and your tour is personal, friendly and allows access to some of the less visited gems that Scotland has to offer. I love the challenge of tailoring bespoke tours to my passenger's needs so don't be afraid to ask for something different! I've lived and breathed Scotland's history, culture and heritage for most of my life and it's my love for my country that I enjoy sharing with others. I've worked in the tourism industry for over 15 years guiding walks and tours and hosting visitors to our area. I'd love to help you make memories of Scotland that will last a lifetime, all you have to do is sit back and enjoy your tour! ToursByLocals guide since 2019 and have worked in the Scottish Tourism industry for the previous 15 years. Member of the Scottish Independent Tour Operators Association (SITOA). Member of the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM). I don't have any restrictions on my tour.

Overview of your Inverness tour

I've lived in this area my whole life, my family have lived here for the last 300 years and my clan arrived around 500 years before that. . . but the history of these lands is older still. Join me as we share the journey. Walk with me through the 4000 year old Bronze Age chambered cairns, follow in the footsteps of the Jacobites as we learn of their rebellion, defeat and executions, immerse yourself in the myths and legends that are part of the Scots' culture and have your breath taken away by the sheer beauty of our rolling landscape. This tour is one of my favourites as we spend a day travelling within striking distance of the Highland capital city of Inverness - plenty of time for getting the craic* - yet it feels like we've travelled through the centuries with the history and stories we cover. We stop at some amazing view points and usually even manage to spot a Highland coo or two!! This tour can accommodate cruise passengers arriving into Inverness. * Gaelic for good conversation, gossip or a laugh

We (5 adults) came in on a cruise ship and want a more personal tour than the typical packed cattle bus that the cruise ships offer. After several positive reviews, we decided to go with Neil M. We booked an all day tour. Neil was very professional and very informative. He communicated with me prior to the tour so we were prepared and experienced no unwanted surprises. He met us once we were off the ship. His vehicle was new and clean. Neil was very friendly, accommodating, and knowledgeable of the Inverness area. We enjoyed driving by Loch Ness as Neil explained the history. We also visited Cawdor Castle and Gardens which we thoroughly enjoyed. The castle is furnished and currently being lived in. The audio tour was very interesting. Different than the other castles we had visited. The gardens were incredible. I would highly recommend a visit here. We also enjoyed Clava Cairns and the Culloden Battlefield. Neil did a great job explaining the history of both. Neil also offered us a wee bit of whiskey tasting towards the end of our tour which we enjoyed. While we were concerned about getting back to our ship an hour before it sailed, he made sure we did. We felt very comfortable, safe, and educated the entire time. I would recommend Neil Munro (Whiskey and Tweed). 5-stars!

Our entire multi-generational family of 7 really enjoyed our full day with Neil. He met us at the designated cruise ship location with a nice vehicle that was well-stocked with comfort items, including water. Neil did a wonderful job of comfortably keeping us on schedule while ensuring we hit all the important sites of the day, including Loch Ness and the fascinating Clava Cairns. Neil has a great knowledge of the area- his long family history on the Isle of Lewis really shined through. He was very kind in accomodating the mobility needs of our family and even made a special stop at a tweed shop that was delightful! We would, without hesitation, recommend Neil to other groups- he is a true professional Thank you, Neil, for an unforgettable day!

If you're searching for tour guide who is kind, personable, accommodating, and full of intimate knowledge of Inverness and Scotland's history, look no further! Neil is absolutely WONDERFUL and extremely professional, while still making you feel like he could quickly become your friend. My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our tour, especially in Neil's nice, spacious, air conditioned van! We were sad when it was all over because of how much we enjoyed ourselves. Neil is the real deal! You won't regret booking with him.
