I love this wee tour as it encapsulates the essence of the Highlands in such a small area! Enjoy panoramic views as we cross stunning Kessock Bridge, before we stop at Culloden Battlefield, site of the last battle on British mainland, ending the Jacobite rebellion and leading to dramatic changes in the Highlands. Let's enjoy the peace of the atmospheric 4000-year-old spiritual Bronze Age Clava Cairn burial tombs. Down to Inverness, with glorious views across the Moray Firth, where a walk by the riverside will reveal stories of castle sieges, a Jacobite heroine, meandering statues, Nessie's first sighting, Jacobite executions and some stunning buildings dating back hundreds of years. Maybe stop in cosy cafes and sample some malt whisky! Returning to Invergordon, along the scenic Beauly Firth, through Beauly with its 13th Century priory, attractive market square and oldest elm tree in Europe. Let's enjoy views across the Cromarty Firth and learn about the role it played in Scottish and British history.
Pick up at accommodation near Inverness or Invergordon port. - Drive to Culloden Battlefield on the outskirts of Inverness for a tour and brief visit to the state of the art visitor centre (45 minutes from Invergordon). - Five minute drive to Clava Cairns, the ancient burial chambers. - A 20 minute drive to park at the side of the River Ness and then a circular walk around the river, taking around 1 1/2 hours, possibly stopping for a break and some whisky tasting. - Then driving back to Invergordon or accommodation along the delightful Beauly Firth, through beautiful Beauly and the Royal Burgh town of Dingwall, before rejoining the charming Cromarty Firth (1 hour). Customization of this tour possible upon request.
