When I arrived in Scotland from France more than 10 years ago, I immediately fell in love with this beautiful country. And when you fall in love, how can you not share everything about your wonderful new home?! I am passionate about the hidden history and legends of Scotland. About how people lived from Kings to peasants. About the tales whispered in the Royal Courts and the taverns in town. I want to share with you the history and culture of Scotland through stories. Not boring long list of dates but engaging local tales. Who do you think invented the bagpipes for example?... If you guessed the Egyptians, you’re right! As far back as 400BC they were played around the Mediterranean Sea and it is likely the Romans who brought it up North to Scotland! You’ll have to wait until the 1500s for the “piob mhor” (Great Pipes) to be fully played and adopted by Highlanders in battle. The instrument was even considered a “Scottish weapon of war” – after the battle of Culloden, if you were found playing the Pipes you risked being hanged! I offer tours in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Stirling, and across Scotland. All my tours can be customized upon request. I love history, ghost stories, food tours (do you know what the Scottish equivalent to a Coca Cola is by the way?), Harry Potter and Sherlock Holmes (because yes, Conan Doyle was Scottish!). I speak both English & French.

Overview of your Edinburgh tour

Now, everyone always says: Sherlock Holmes = 221B Baker Street, London. However, whilst Sherlock is most certainly from London, that's not the case of his writer Conan Doyle himself! In 1876, a young Conan Doyle joined the Edinburgh Medical school and became the assistant of Joseph Bell, a consulting doctor for Police Scotland. During this private tour, we'll follow the author's footsteps through the winding streets of Edinburgh. You will discover what the city was like in the 19th century and learn about the medicine and justice of the time, as well as the crimes and murderers that fed the imagination of the young doctor's apprentice to create one of the greatest detectives of all time. Stroll along the University Neighbourhood and the historic Royal Mile, discovering the locations that served as inspiration for the Sherlock Holmes adventures. We'll then head to the Graveyard to see how body snatchers used to steal bodies, and to learn about the serial killers Burke and Hare.
