The Edinburgh of Conan Doyle & Sherlock Holmes

When I arrived in Scotland from France more than 10 years ago, I immediately fell in love with this beautiful country. And when you fall in love, how can you not share everything about your wonderful new home?! I am passionate about the hidden history and legends of Scotland. About how people lived from Kings to peasants. About the tales whispered in the Royal Courts and the taverns in town. I want to share with you the history and culture of Scotland through stories. Not boring long list of dates but engaging local tales. Who do you think invented the bagpipes for example?... If you guessed the Egyptians, you’re right! As far back as 400BC they were played around the Mediterranean Sea and it is likely the Romans who brought it up North to Scotland! You’ll have to wait until the 1500s for the “piob mhor” (Great Pipes) to be fully played and adopted by Highlanders in battle. The instrument was even considered a “Scottish weapon of war” – after the battle of Culloden, if you were found playing the Pipes you risked being hanged! I offer tours in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Stirling, and across Scotland. All my tours can be customized upon request.
