Hi, I’m Neil, a private tour guide based in Edinburgh. I was born and brought up in the Edinburgh area and have spent most of my life exploring Scotland. After a 30-year career in the Police Service, I moved into tourism, and 15 years later I’m still doing something I really enjoy – showing visitors around my country. I’ve worked as a tour guide at Glenkinchie Distillery and I’m an accredited Whisky Ambassador, so whisky is a particular interest of mine. I also enjoy Scotland’s history, golf, scenery and, perhaps most of all, sharing the stories behind the places we visit. I don’t believe in rushing people from one attraction to the next. I like to find out what interests you and build the day around that. Whether it’s your first visit to Scotland or you’ve been here before, I can suggest places and routes that suit you. My tours can cover Edinburgh and the surrounding area, or take us much further afield into the Highlands, the islands and other parts of Scotland. I travel in a luxury Mercedes V-Class, which can accommodate up to seven guests, or a BMW 7 Series for smaller groups. I’m also a Police-qualified advanced driver, so you can relax and enjoy the journey while I take care of the driving. I’ve been lucky enough to show people from all over the world around Scotland over the years, and I still enjoy seeing their reaction when they discover somewhere new. An absolutely unforgettable day with Neil on the most perfect weather day in Scotland. This was our second tour with Neil and we so very much enjoyed spending time with him and getting to know more about Scotland. The trip through the The Trossachs and stops in Loch Tay were truly breathtaking and were the highlight of the day. Neil has a great personality and we highly recommend this tour.

He is an amazing tour guide: very knowledgable about Scottish history and whiskey, which my husband appreciated. He changed the tour to accommodate our mobility issues and interests. We’ll begin by heading from Edinburgh to historic Stirling, where you can explore Stirling Castle—one of Scotland’s most important royal strongholds, with beautiful views across the countryside. We then continue to Doune Castle, a well-preserved medieval fortress known for its film and TV appearances. Travelling further into the countryside, we stop in Callander for a relaxed coffee break or short wander. Entering the Trossachs—often called the Highlands in miniature—we pause at Loch Lubnaig, where peaceful waters meet forested hills. We continue to Killin to see the Falls of Dochart, where the river flows through the heart of the village, before enjoying time along the shores of Loch Tay, surrounded by mountains and rich history. Throughout the day, there’s flexibility for stops, photos and lunch, all at a relaxed pace. You’ll travel in comfort in a luxury Mercedes V-Class or BMW 7 Series.
