I am Edinburgh born bred and educated. I am passionate about Edinburgh and love showing it to people and revealing its hidden secrets. I have always been fascinated by history landscape and architecture. I gradually became aware of how crucially such culture has shaped our understanding and the world we live in. This led to a further MA later in life from Edinburgh University in History of Art and Architectural History. I have now just completed an MSc. in Architectural Conservation. I try to make my guiding informative but lighthearted, interesting and fun with many photo opportunities. I love meeting international people, have many overseas friends and often find guiding a mutual learning opportunity. I live in the city center and can meet you at central hotels or a convenient landmark for walking tours tailored to your own schedule and needs or interests. My Edinburgh driving tours are a very good way to orientate yourself and see highlights to explore later at your own pace. Edinburgh is surrounded by lovely countryside with so many interesting places that I love taking people to visit. I was brought up rambling round ancient castles and listening to stories of old. I have lived in Edinburgh all my life and know virtually every corner of it. I am a qualified tour guide and used to guiding in historic houses. I was often previously asked to lead tours in Edinburgh. I have taken many specialist courses on art, history and architecture related subjects in addition to four different university degrees. More importantly, I am eager to share these interests and show people fascinating places.

Toby is an excellent guide all around. His driving and car are very comfortable. He set the schedule except for our distillery tour, which I booked at the last minute and he worked in perfectly. All the sites he took us were a bit off the beaten path—two castles, several parks, a palace that was having a special exhibition that we were able to get in at the last minute and several roadside stops. The lunch restaurant he close fit the varied diets of the three of us very well. He knows lots about Scottish history in general and Edinburgh. We started with a ride through New Town Edinburgh which was not on the schedule but something we were curious about. Toby’s drive through was really wonderful.
The tour was awesome going to some sites not as busy as the sites in Edinburgh, but full of history. Toby had a great knowledge of the history and also of the architecture. I especially liked our lunch stops places we would never have found. Overall, a great experience I highly recommend it.
As expressed in our previous tours with Toby he is an outstanding tour guide. All three of our full day tours in Scotland with Toby were thorough, well paced, and just plain fun. We highly recommend him. Ron and Jane
We had a marathon day on this highland tour. This was our 2nd day with Toby; he customized our tour and provided a superb experience. Toby was knowledgeable, delightful and humorous; bringing a wealth of knowledge of Scottish history and culture as well as personal knowledge of the villages and areas visited. We learned and saw so much more than we anticipated. We enjoyed lunch at the Moulin Inn, learning about local foods and Ales. We truly saw the beauty and splendor of the highlands and lochs!
Toby was great. Flexible and knowledgeable!
