Hi my name is Michael and I would like to welcome you to Scotland! I was born and raised in Glasgow and have worked in the city for over 35 years in a wide ranging career including banking and education. Like you I love to travel and I have been lucky to visit the USA, France, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Belgium, Greece, Poland, Bulgaria, the Caribbean and the United Arab Emirates. In each of these locations I make a point of exploring the culture, history and architecture of whichever city I find myself in, and I would love the opportunity to do the same for you here in Glasgow, Edinburgh or St Andrews. I have led numerous educational tours with groups ranging in size from to 4 to 40 in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Stirling, Perth, and Inverness. Further afield I have guided students across the battlefields of France and Belgium and also on thought-provoking and emotional tours of Auschwitz in Poland. Just recently I was fortunate to be one of the 21 students who qualified as a prestigious Blue Badge Guide with the Scottish Tourist Guide Association which allows me to guide in an official capacity anywhere in the country and it would be a privilege and a pleasure to share my knowledge and expertise with you through ToursByLocals in Scotland. I hope we get a chance to meet and stroll around our fascinating cities and towns as I share my passion for storytelling and give you a unique experience to leave you with wonderful memories of some of Scotland's favourite destinations. Thank you! Michael * Bachelor of Arts in History and Education from University of Stirling * 35 years working in Glasgow * 10 years guiding experience * Clean UK drivers licence

Let me use my knowledge and expertise to take you on a fascinating 1, 000 year journey down the most famous mile (well 1 and 1/8 miles to be precise) in Scotland. At the end of the tour you will be able to tell your friends about the girlfriend who helped to break into Britain's most impregnable fortress, the door that has one of the earliest drawings of the stars and stripes, the 13 year old schoolboy murderer, the dragons that inspired JK Rowling, the big toe rubbed for good luck and why a statue of a horse has pig's ears! Don't tell anyone but we will also stop for a slice of Edinburgh's famous fudge!
We will meet on the esplanade of Edinburgh Castle and take in the spectacular views across the city from our vantage point. (If you wish to visit inside the castle then I am happy to customize the tour for this purpose). We will wander down the Royal Mile to uncover some of the most fascinating secret's of this amazing 1 mile stretch of land. Such as. . . . * the incredible stories behind the hidden courts of the Royal Mile * the museums that contain the stories of this historical city * the statues of some of the city's most famous inhabitants * the stunning interior of the Royal Mile's celebrated cathedral * the historic buildings and the people who lived in them Our tour will finish at the bottom of the Royal Mile where you will have the opportunity to end your tour in style by visiting the magnificent Holyrood Palace. (Again, I can arrange this for you if you wish to customize your tour)
