Hi, my name is Andy - let me take you on a journey through Scotland's history, culture and heritage. As a Blue Badge Guide accredited by the Scottish Tourist Guides Association, I am fully qualified to help you explore this wonderful nation, no matter what your interests, or the reason for your visit. After many years working in Edinburgh's Financial Services sector, I decided it was time to follow my real passion - for history, and for telling a good story. Scotland certainly has an abundance of both! Initially moving to the city in 1999 to study Politics & Economics at the University of Edinburgh, I have lived in Scotland's capital for many years, with my wife, Kathryn, and two young sons, Matthew and Jamie. I have extensive experience guiding in the city and throughout the whole of Scotland. Whether you are interested in exploring romantic ruins and historic battlefields, taking in some of the most spectacular scenery on Earth, or relaxing in one of our vibrant, modern cities, I would be delighted to help you to make your visit to Scotland a memorable one. Join me for an extraordinary full day tour of some of Edinburgh's lesser known treasures, away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre. Sitting on the banks of the Water of Leith, Dean Village is a pretty oasis of calm and tranquility a short walk from the bustling New Town. The area is also home to Edinburgh's stunning neoclassical National Gallery of Modern Art, with works from Picasso, Matisse, Andy Warhol, Anthony Gormley and many others. A leisurely stroll along the tranquil riverbank is the bohemian neighbourhood of Stockbridge, with many independent shops and eateries, and Edinburgh's extensive botanical garden, boasting over 13, 000 plant species, Victorian glasshouses and great views of the city skyline. Leith was recently named by Time Out magazine as one of the coolest neighbourhoods in the world. Boasting some of the city's best restaurants and a thriving creative scene, the area is also home to the Royal Yacht Britannia, formerly owned by the royal family and now a popular museum.
- Begin your tour in Charlotte Square in the heart of the city - Spend time in Dean Village, a riverside community a stone's throw from busy city streets - Visit the National Gallery of Modern Art and enjoy a tour of its collection. - Stroll along the picturesque river valley of the Water of Leith. - Continue your journey to the bohemian neighbourhood of Stockbridge, with time to browse it's independent bookshops and boutiques, and stop for lunch in one of it's charming eateries. - Enjoy the city's extensive Botanical Gardens with its many exotic plant species and fantastic views of the city's skyline. . - Take a short taxi ride (or riverside walk if you prefer) to independent-minded Leith, and discover the history of this maritime area, once Scotland's busiest seaport and now a thriving cultural hub. - Weekend tours will have the opportunity to visit a bustling farmer's market along the route.
