Hi, I’m Neil, a private tour guide based in Edinburgh. I was born and brought up in the Edinburgh area and have spent most of my life exploring Scotland. After a 30-year career in the Police Service, I moved into tourism, and 15 years later I’m still doing something I really enjoy – showing visitors around my country. I’ve worked as a tour guide at Glenkinchie Distillery and I’m an accredited Whisky Ambassador, so whisky is a particular interest of mine. I also enjoy Scotland’s history, golf, scenery and, perhaps most of all, sharing the stories behind the places we visit. I don’t believe in rushing people from one attraction to the next. I like to find out what interests you and build the day around that. Whether it’s your first visit to Scotland or you’ve been here before, I can suggest places and routes that suit you. My tours can cover Edinburgh and the surrounding area, or take us much further afield into the Highlands, the islands and other parts of Scotland. I travel in a luxury Mercedes V-Class, which can accommodate up to seven guests, or a BMW 7 Series for smaller groups. I’m also a Police-qualified advanced driver, so you can relax and enjoy the journey while I take care of the driving. I’ve been lucky enough to show people from all over the world around Scotland over the years, and I still enjoy seeing their reaction when they discover somewhere new. Excellent tour guide! This was a long day of driving to see Hadrian's Wall, but we knew that. Neil set up a tour of Rosslyn Chapel as well for us. Wonderful tour guide. Excellent communication before hand. Timely arrival at our hotel.

Highly, HIGHLY, recommended. I thought this was a cool idea when I booked it, but the trip and the guide exceeded my expectations. Neil is a super knowledgeable tour guide and really a fun person to talk to during the trip to and from the sites. We thoroughly enjoyed our day with Neil. Our tour took place in January of 2025, so sunlight was limited, but Neil planned our visits accordingly, so we could maximize our time at each location. Our first stop was at Rosslyn Chapel, which is a beautiful and ornately stone-carved church. We were also able to visit a portion of Hadrian's Wall and the remnants of a Roman Fort which included descriptive placards throughout the fort area to give us an informative idea of what the Roman fort looked like almost 2000 years before. Neil chose scenic routes for our ride to each of the locations and even chose a route which passed ancestor land on our return trip to Edinburgh. We highly recommend Neil for this lovely tour!

Crossing into England, we explore Hadrian’s Wall, built by the Romans nearly 2,000 years ago. Visit the Roman Army Museum and Vindolanda, where you can see artefacts and remains from life on the frontier. Walk a dramatic section of the Wall at Walltown Crags, with sweeping views across the landscape. Continue to Housesteads Roman Fort, one of the best-preserved forts along the Wall, where you can imagine life as a Roman soldier. Throughout the day, there’s flexibility for stops, photos and lunch, all at a relaxed pace while travelling in a luxury Mercedes V-Class or BMW 7 Series.
