I have a passion for my native country and love to tell stories, especially ones that bring alive our amazing history and landscape. Putting your trip into context, linking the places we visit with those you are familiar with, and taking you back in time to experience the atmosphere in days of yore. I am a more than fully qualified Scottish Tourist Guide Association Blue Badge Guide - having grown up on a farm in the Scottish Borders tending livestock and driving tractors from a young age, I have a countryman's eye for detail and knowledge of the landscapes and an in-depth understanding of the seasonal farming processes across Scotland. As a former naval aviator in the Royal Navy, I have a professional understanding of military history and enthusiasm for explaining the historical impact and significance of key battles and political events in Scotland. As an international corporate executive and Freeman of the City of London, I have been fortunate to see much of the world and experience multiple cultures. I use my knowledge gained outside Scotland to interpret the sights, sounds and history of this ancient land to those coming to Scotland from overseas. Between professional roles, I led an international overland expedition from Perthshire to Persia in a classic Range Rover. These days I offer guests the chance to tour in the comfort of a fully air-conditioned Land Rover Discovery 5 which combines luxury with the capability to explore areas off-limits and go further than other tours, travelling closer to sights of interest and often hidden parts of Scotland. My personal philosophy is "for better understanding" and my tours are designed to ensure you leave Scotland with happy memories and a better understanding and love of this beautiful country! Discover Scotland's greatest export as you sample a variety of distinctive whiskies, each distilled within its unique landscape. Scotch is made from only 3 ingredients (malted barley, water and yeast) yet this tour will uncover the unlimited complexity of smell and taste unique to each distillery. From those that set fire to the heart, to those whose aromas transport you to far-off lands and memories. By taking more than a day we can venture to any mainland distillery, for tours longer than three days, we can reach any of the island distilleries. Ranging from the Viking heritage of Highland Park on Orkney, to the shoreside remoteness of Talisker on Skye, or the nine distilleries isolated offshore on Islay, and those on the outskirts of Edinburgh and Glasgow, we will visit the ones you choose. Just like the whiskies themselves, distillery tastings vary markedly, and this tour can incorporate a few select distilleries in great detail, or nip into several each day to maximise the variety you experience.
Our journey is as bespoke as your taste buds as we venture into the landscape that produces Scotland's pristine spirit. If you have a favourite whisky we will head to the distillery that produces it. If you don't, or are new to whisky, and would like to sample the breadth of flavours, I will create a bespoke tour to tickle the taste buds, from the peat and smoke of the islands, to the mellow sherried whiskies of Speyside. Accommodation recommendations ensure your hospitality matches the wonders of the whisky and scenery. Between distilleries, I highlight the magic of Scotland including religious ruins, mighty medieval fortresses and captivating castles explaining the geology and history of my beloved homeland. I interpret the dramatic landscape so you can fully appreciate and immerse yourself in the adventure of Scotland. A member of the Scotch Malt Whisky Society I can also introduce you to the delights of single-cask whiskies at their venues in Glasgow and Edinburgh.

This vehicle can seat six passengers in comfort, although the middle seat in the second row has less legroom. As this tour is bespoke, having a 4x4 vehicle allows me to reach sites where others fear to tread.
