Hi, my name is Andy - let me take you on a journey through Scotland's history, culture and heritage. As a Blue Badge Guide accredited by the Scottish Tourist Guides Association, I am fully qualified to help you explore this wonderful nation, no matter what your interests, or the reason for your visit. After many years working in Edinburgh's Financial Services sector, I decided it was time to follow my real passion - for history, and for telling a good story. Scotland certainly has an abundance of both! Initially moving to the city in 1999 to study Politics & Economics at the University of Edinburgh, I have lived in Scotland's capital for many years, with my wife, Kathryn, and two young sons, Matthew and Jamie. I have extensive experience guiding in the city and throughout the whole of Scotland. Whether you are interested in exploring romantic ruins and historic battlefields, taking in some of the most spectacular scenery on Earth, or relaxing in one of our vibrant, modern cities, I would be delighted to help you to make your visit to Scotland a memorable one. "The landlady and Tam grew gracious, Wi' secret favours, sweet, and precious:, The souter tauld his queerest stories; The landlord's laugh was ready chorus:" For centuries the Public House has been central to life in Scotland, a place where people would gather to celebrate and commiserate, to share stories, ideas and camaraderie. Join me as I introduce you to a selection of authentic, traditional pubs that have stood the test of time, each with its own unique charm and character. Sip on a pint of local craft beer or a dram of fine Scotch whisky as you hear about Edinburgh's long history as a centre of brewing excellence and learn about the traditional methods that have shaped Scotland's renowned beer and whisky industries. Soak in the cosy atmosphere as you discover the role of pubs as meeting places for intellectuals, artists and revolutionaries, and hear fascinating stories of smugglers, excise men and prohibitionists. Slàinte to an evening of storytelling, conviviality and the spirit of Scotland!
- Visit three of Edinburgh's most atmospheric public houses and sample a carefully selected local ale or dram of whisky - 'Coorie in' in a cosy traditional Scottish tavern and learn about the long history of the local pub at the heart of the Scottish community - Hear intriguing stories about the famous figures and ordinary folk who have shaped Edinburgh over the centuries - Learn what makes Scottish beer and whisky unique, how it is made, and perhaps discover a new favourite tipple - Take in a lively folk music session in its natural environment (schedule permitting) - End your tour in the rooms of the Scotch Malt Whisky Society, a private club based in an elegant four story Georgian townhouse, and learn all about Scotland's 'Water of Life'.
