If you want to do a tour, tour with Ally Beaton and skip the tourist crush while watching history come alive. Ally educated us on the Scottish Edinburgh Castle, and the Royal Mile. Afterwords, Ally took us off the beaten path where we enjoyed a wonderful lunch at one of Edinburgh’s oldest pubs complete with two Skittle lanes where the locals gathered for beer and contests. Next, we visited Holyrood Palace with its wonderful views and deep history. Given the short amount of time available for our trip Ally provided truly entertaining commentary highlighting both the historical as well as contemporary perspectives of all the locations. Edinburgh Castle, the Old Town, New Town & Rosslyn Chapel
Overview of your Edinburgh tour
Once we are ready, we will travel into the heart of Edinburgh's New Town and Dean Village before we explore the Old Town, we will have free time to explore the magnificent Edinburgh Castle, before we travel down the Royal Mile, onto Holyrood Palace, travelling up 700ft and round the extinct volcano called Arthurs Seat in the heart of the Queens Garden. We travel south towards the Knights Templars and stunning (externally and internally) Rosslyn Chapel, legend has it, its the location where the Holy Grail is buried which inspired Dan Brown to write his best selling novel The Da Vinci Code. It's red sandstone exterior, and the stunning architecture and beautiful Italian ornate carvings. A couple of hundred metres from Rosslyn Chapel is Rosslyn Castle, with the foundations dating back to the 14th century, once inhabited and still in the Sinclair family. From here ists a wee drive back to your cruise ship or accommodation.

Ally took a disaster of a day caused by our cruise line and turned it into one of the most memorable of our trip. He adapted our tour on the go. His conversations were entertaining, lively, and full of relevant information from history to current events, from geology to geography, and from distilling to brewing. Alex is a great guide and you will love his humor and enthusiasm. He customizes on the go as my daughter saw a business associated with "Harry Potter" and he immediately stopped so she could get out and sign a wall and get some pictures. It is no wonder that his tours book up far in advance.
Ally got us to Edinburgh Castle before the crowds got too large. We enjoyed our tour and then he guided us to a great place for lunch. We had to battle the rain but he took us out to Roslyn Chapel and then back to town for more pictures of the Royal Mile. He is a wonderful guide and has great knowledge of Edinburgh and Scotland.
Our guide met us in his traditional kilt and loaded us up into his van. There was plenty of room and plenty of fun! Alex was great! He put up with all our silliness and jokes. He took us everywhere we wanted . What a great day we had!
