I have worked in the Scottish tourist industry since leaving the regular army in 2005, I have a first class degree in Scottish History, and a Higher National Diploma in tourism & Leisure. Scotland is a diverse mixture of peoples with breathtaking landscapes and a history that changed the world!! I love nothing more than showing small groups around the many fascinating wonders of our country, "We Scots are a people who are bound to our ancestors. Though we cannot look into their eyes or hear their voices, we can walk in their footsteps and be where they once stood". Join my tours to discover the highlights of Scotland and learn about our colourful past. Explore Edinburgh's "Royal" Mile, which has been the capital of Scotland since the 15th Century. Enjoy a casual walk from the Castle down to the Palace of Holyrood House, with visits to all the major attractions en-route. Compare Edinburgh's medieval Old Town, where people lived in cramped conditions, to todays vibrant European Capital. Enjoy undivided attention and learn all about this fascinating Unesco World Heritage site on this 9-hour tour.
Your tour will take you on a comfortable walk in the Old Town along the famed Royal Mile. - Hear stories of the murderers, geniuses, body-snatchers, witch hunters, firebrand priests and philosophers. - See the eerie site of witch burnings and the castle sitting high above the city on its volcanic rock, then it's down Victoria St and into the Grassmarket and up the "Candlemakers Row" to see the Greyfriars churchyard and a statue to Greyfriars "Bobby" before heading past the "Birthplace" of Harry Potter. - After lunch, we continue on our walk with a visit to the High Kirk of St Giles a pre-reformation Cathedral. - Further down see the former home of John Knox, the Calvanistic reformer, then it's on to the Canongate Kirk and graveyard, where His Majesty the King worships when in Edinburgh. - A little further down "The" Mile and sitting in the shadow of Edinburgh's extinct volcano, and across the road from the Scottish Parliament building sits Holyrood Palace & Abbey (12c).
