I was born and raised in Northern Ireland, taught as an English teacher for over thirty years, and have a passion for visiting the places writers lived in, where they worked, and the settings they used in their stories. After arriving in London in 1995, I have grown to love its great churches, theatres - and pubs! My wife and I have raised our family in London, and have travelled widely around the U.K., Europe, and the eastern seaboard of the U.S.. I follow cricket, and have supported Chelsea Football Club since they won the FA Cup in 1970! Now qualified as a Blue Badge Guide, I specialise in literary tours, including giving walking tours in Bloomsbury and following in Shakespeare's footsteps. I also enjoy taking visitors to see such places as Stonehenge and Salisbury, and walking with them around the wonderful city of Bath, with its Roman Baths and elegant Georgian buildings. I enjoy tailoring tours to respond to visitors' special requests, following their interests and enthusiasms, and love opportunities to explore in detail and depth, and to head off the beaten path. I like to engage in conversation and enjoy meeting people from other countries, and finding out about their perspectives on the places we visit together.

Overview of your Bath tour

Jane Austen lived in Bath for several years and wrote two novels which are largely set in the city. In these, she presents Bath as a fashionable spa resort where well-to-do people flocked to take the waters and improve their health, as well as to enjoy the society and entertainment with which it overflowed. Our three-hour walking tour explores the elegant buildings she helped to make famous in "Northanger Abbey" and Persuasion", such as the Pump Room, the Royal Circus and the Assembly Rooms, Milsom Street's shops and the Theatre Royal. The tour could include a visit to the Jane Austen Centre with its Regency Tea Room or to Number One, the Royal Crescent - a museum of Regency Bath. Each of these visits would add another thirty minutes or so to the tour, with no additional guiding fee.

Your Bath tour itinerary
