Welcome to my profile on ToursByLocals. My name is Cheryl and I am a Blue Badge Tour guide in the Southwest of England. This is the highest level of qualification for Tourist Guides in the UK issued by the Institute of Tourism. My area of expertise covers all the way from Cornwall, along the Jurassic Coast, across to the New Forest and up through the Cotswolds. It is an area steeped in myth and legend, rich in history and it is my pleasure to take you round this wonderful part of the country. There are prehistoric landscapes, ruined castles and glorious gardens. There are stately homes, cathedrals and churches. Every site has a story and I love to bring these sites to life for you. So come along and be bowled over by beautiful Bath, my home town, be captivated by the Cotswolds or enjoy the mystery of prehistoric sites such as Stonehenge and Avebury. My tours are well researched, full of fact and entertaining as well as being tailored to suit your schedules and requirements. So whatever your interests be it pagans, poets or painters; royals, Romans or rebels, I have a tour for you! Walking tours are an excellent way to get to know a city. Every town has its stories and a guided tour will fill the streets with life. Why not visit Bath and meet the great the good and the not so great and good. If you want to go further afield I can arrange private executive class transport for you and join you as the guide. Cross Salisbury Plain to Stonehenge to meet the ancestors. Take a trip through the Cotswolds for pretty chocolate box villages, rolling hills and lush valleys. We can get to some out of the way spots and leave the crowds behind. This hike across Cheddar Gorge is one of my favourite tours. As part of a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty there are stunning views all round and I love the fact that walking the Gorge is to walk through millions of years of the earth's geological history. No wonder then that Cheddar Gorge is regarded as one of the greatest natural wonders in Britain and for Lord of the Rings Fans the inspiration for Helm's Deep. The hike is at your own pace and there are plenty of opportunities to stop for some great photos. and stories including a view of Glastonbury and tales of King Arthur and Guinevere. As we go, I can explain the different ancient environments from hot deserts to arctic tundra that created the gorge. Take a look at my video and photos for a taste of the tour. And talking of taste, yes this is the home of cheddar cheese made here for hundreds of years and still matured in the local caves. A sample will be included in the tour. So, come along and hike the home of the cheese with me.
