My name is Rui and I am a Sao Miguel Island native. I love meeting people from other countries and making their visit to the Azores one they will never forget. Sete Cidades is located in the West part of the island. On this crater you find two twin lakes that are called the Green and the Blue Lakes. At the border of the crater it is possible to make hiking tours with fantastic views over the lakes and village. Lagoa do Fogo (Fire Lake) is classified as a Nature Reserve located in the centre of the island. The lake has limpid waters and is surrounded by sand beaches and endemic vegetation.
Rui was a fantastic guide for our tour of Sao Miguel! He's very professional, knowledgeable about the island including insights to its history, culture, etc. He was able to adapt our tour to our rather limited schedule and get us back to our cruise ship with plenty of time to spare. Definitely would use him for future tours!
FANTASTIC!!! We had an absolutely fantastic day with Rui. It was raining and stormy all day. He offered us our pre-arranged tour or a Plan B. The Plan B was marvelous. Rui was charming, intelligent, and made our day very enjoyable. We felt inspired and came to appreciate the beautiful country that he showed us. We were only sorry we couldn't have more time to spend with him.
Our first stop on a 23 day cruise was Ponta Delgada in the Azores in April 23, 2022. We were greeted by Rui. He as very professional and a long term local on the island. We like to use Tours by Locals for this reason. The guide has really an excellent handle on the area and places to see, shop and of course "eat". Thanks to Rui, our cruise got off to a great start.
