My name is Nicolau, Nico for my friends, born and raised in Madeira, I can say that I live in one of the best and most beautiful places in the world. not only by its exuberant nature but also for our people and traditions, love my heritage and island. I lived outside Madeira for a while, but couldn't stand living far away from my roots. . and since I came back years ago, and took my official Guide and mountain guiding course, knew immediately that the thing that would make me happier and fulfilled was offering and showing you my home! Knowing the Toursbylocals, I was the first guide for Madeira Island and It as been some fantastic years, but everyday feel that its our first day, and been working as an idependent local guide with ToursByLocals (yes looks like it was yesterday) To be able to do what I love, and reach travellers like you own that visit our island and want to see what was really important. . not just going to all the touristic places. . but be free to give you the taste of a local! In my life, I always try not to choose the "big man" and give the maximum back to small independent workers and business, like me, so I hope you don't get tricked and lured as well into a fake tasteless tour, of the big companies sharks "disguised" as a local experiences, that in the end its just one more tour! ;) Let me take you with me and share the best of our island. I love my cars, one is a classic UMM jeep, convertible, completely restored and a great machine, other is my vw transporter mini bus or a SUV, but as professional can also get any type of transport like a bus for a bigger group, and my tours are designed for the people who really want to explore the island in a relaxed calm way, learn about our culture and history. . drink and eat in the real local places. for you as I believe in people, not numbers! This is a tour that can be totally and fully customized. Its here for those who need or wish something more wich are not on the other trips I offer, and I can specially design it for you. We usually do a 4-hour tour, but could do more, just ask so we can plan any activity in Funchal or any other place according to your time and desire. Please let me know before booking to see if we can fit in my 4-hour tour or prepare a customized tour.
Nicolau was very friendly, knowledgeable, cheerful and flexible -- basically, everything you would want in a tour guide. He met us in a large and comfortable vehicle and should us the highlights of Funchal and Madeira. We highly recommend this tour and guide.
Nico was absolutely charming and proved to be an outstanding guide for our limited time on the beautiful island of Madeira! He was very flexible when we were unsure of what we wanted to do and made sure we had plenty of time in the areas where we wanted to spend more time. Nico is an exceptional guide. We had a wonderful tour with Nico, and learned a lot about beautiful Madeira during our tour. He adjusted everything on the tour to our preferences, we enjoyed our conversations during the tour, and we were left wanting to return to Madeira to spend more time there. We couldn't ask for more!
This was an excellent adventure! Nico did a wonderful job planning a route that allowed us to experience as much of his glorious country as possible. There is no way you can do and see everything in such a short time, but Nico did a great job with the plan and then modifying the plan when one of our guests got hurt (at our villa, not during the tour) would greatly recommend
On this 4 hour tour, we can do what you would like. Let me walk with you, on a cultural city tour, sit and enjoy a coffee on one of the busiest esplanades on the island, or take you to eat the best "espada" sandwich with a hot cocoa, see the market and old town try many of the local produced tropical fruits and all other goods! If you want we can base this tour on the west also, and for that we will take my jeep or van were we would visit and pass through many vineyards for the Madeira wine or the east were we would visit the big cliffs of Ponta de São Lourenço, or plan any other activity In Funchal or any other place according to your time and desire! -The tour can be customised according to your preferences, please inquire
