Hi, my name is Valdemar, a 45 years old Madeira island native. I was born in the capital Funchal but my roots are in the west and east of the island, where my grandparents are from. For 16 years I have worked in a store. Getting in contact with people, knowing their stories, was the best part of it and enriched and gave me social skills. In my free time, this island was my breakout. 10 years ago my breakout became a full-time occupation and I swapped a store for an outdoor office and started delivering tours. First with sidecar motorcycles, then minibus and jeeps, as a freelancer guide and since then, my passion for this island got bigger. The satisfaction and smiling faces of my guests were the cherries on top. Right away I felt this was what I was meant to be doing with my life. I feel blessed and very lucky to be able to do what I love for a living. I'll divide Madeira in 3 regions, East, West, and Highlands. Each day we'll visit one, it will be like visiting 3 different islands. Prepare yourself for a ride of senses. You'll learn, laugh, drink, eat and feel Madeira from a local perspective. I’d give this review more stars if I could! Valdemar knows everything about Madeira and took us on the best hikes and to the best places. He’s caring, interesting, and just all around great to spend time with. He truly listened to what we wanted and made it happen. Having him to get us around was priceless. Highly, HIGHLY recommend!
Valdemar is a fantastic guide who I certainly recommend. He is a very good listener and is always open to make changes and adjust the programme to your needs. He enjoys "differences" and learns quickly how to adjust to new and unexpected conditions. I am blind and Valdemar quickly adjusted his way of guiding in hikes to the needs of someone who cannot see anything. He always makes jurneys possible by checking the weather and adjusting travel programmes to the best climate conditions.
Valdemar tailored a consecutive 3-day tour from North to South and East to West. Boy, did he take us off the beaten tourist path! He booked restaurants each day for great lunches. He is a native Madeiran and knows the island settlement and and economic history right up to the present. I'm sure glad he does all the driving! How much we would have missed had we rented a car and tried to go it alone! Valdemar truly delivers five-star gold service! Highly recommended and worth every Euro.
We spent 3 wonderful days exploring the island of Madeira. Vladimir knows the area like the back of his hand and showed us spectacular views and local communities most tourists never see. Although the tours were all day we were never bored! He is engaging and works very hard to make sure you're always comfortable. His lunch stops were fantastic and ordered in advance so we never had to wait. While the new roads are great, taking the old roads to explore with a local is an experience not to be missed
Absolutely stellar! Val was attentive and so informative. The tour was full of Madeiran culture as he took us to where the locals go, avoiding large tour groups which gave us time to peacefully take in our surroundings. For our lunches we ate where the locals go and trusted him to choose for us. We were not disappointed.
With Val we go no tourist has gone before !! We had 4 days tour .. Was 4 Fantastic Days !! We discover everything ... I think we know now the island better from the most locals..!! Was a magic moments.. !! Thanks Val for this great adventure !!
Day 1 East- Startin in the picturesque north village of S. Vicente, surrounded by mountains, forest, and vineyards with wine tasting. Then P. Delgada with amazing views over the Northwest. Driving on old roads and off-road, we'll visit Boaventura, São Jorge stopping in Santana for lunch, visiting its traditional Thatched houses, stopping in Queimadas to hike. Porto da Cruz with a sugarcane living museum/distillery with rum taste, Machico and the fishing village of Caniçal Day 2 West- Stars in Ribeira Brava, we'll head to cliffy Encumeada, crossing Paul da Serra's Plateau (1500 m high) hiking in mystic Fanal, swim in Seixal with lunch in Porto Moniz, northwest. Heading southwest, Jardim do Mar and Madalena do Mar banana plantation finishing in gorgeous Ponta do Sol. Day 3 Highlands- Starts in Cabo Girão glass viewpoint, we'll stop in scenic Câmara de Lobos, lunching in the dramatic Nuns Valley village, heading to Pico Areeiro (1816m) for a hike, Monte and its sleds to finish. There will some surprises. . .
