Hi, my name is Valdemar, a 45 years old Madeira island native. I was born in the capital Funchal but my roots are in the west and east of the island, where my grandparents are from. For 16 years I have worked in a store. Getting in contact with people, knowing their stories, was the best part of it and enriched and gave me social skills. In my free time, this island was my breakout. 10 years ago my breakout became a full-time occupation and I swapped a store for an outdoor office and started delivering tours. First with sidecar motorcycles, then minibus and jeeps, as a freelancer guide and since then, my passion for this island got bigger. The satisfaction and smiling faces of my guests were the cherries on top. Right away I felt this was what I was meant to be doing with my life. I feel blessed and very lucky to be able to do what I love for a living. This is the perfect tour for wine lovers! Our landscapes are a perfect symbiosis between sea and forest, mountains, valleys, people, and vineyards. While sipping our wines you will get in touch with our roots, culture, and traditions. It is the fusion of unique knowledge, textures, and tastes. Since I remember, my family (and I could extend to the majority of the families on this island) produced wine for their own consumption and it's hard not to feel nostalgic when I think about it. In the last few years, I have been learning more about our rich history in winemaking and visiting vineyards, talking with the people behind all the processes has enhanced my ability, as a guide, to talk about Madeira's wines, fortified, red, white, rosé, wine spirits, and grape varietals grown here. This being said, I believe I am the right person to take you on this ride of the senses. Come join me in tasting the true flavors of Madeira's wine and its uniqueness!
The highest compliment would be that the guide provided more than expected and Val did just that! We were picked up on time, visited two wineries, saw many highlights of Madeira. AND got off the beaten path to see and enjoy much of the culture away from the city.

A tightly packed itinerary for a 3.5 day intro tour of Madeira...and the highlight was our time spent with Valdemar. What a great tour, great ride, stunning vistas and personalized wine and fortified wine tastings. Since we had late a late afternoon commitment, Valdemar was able to skillfully manage our day and itinerary in order to visit as much as possible in a still reasonably relaxing manner. At his suggestion we started the tour an hour earlier which was very kind of him. Great conversation along the way, Valdemar is both knowledgeable and fun to be with, a true ambassador for his island and country. Can't wait to go back, and if we are so lucky, you can be sure we will want to spend more time with Valdemar and discover additional parts of the amazing island, its topography and its people.

This tour was fantastic. Doing a private tour is 100% worth it as it provided the opportunity to customize the plan as we went. We got to hear about the history of the Island and economy while getting to know our guide and his experience growing up on Madeira. Honestly, the wine was OK but what made the day was the hospitality and history that can only come with the knowledge of this excellent guide.
On this tour, we will visit the biggest wine regions on the island and two of the most important wine producers and their cellars. After picking you up, we will head to Estreito de Camara de Lobos, Camara de Lobos in the southeast part of the island, and then São Vicente in the Northwest, driving through vineyards, farmer's roads, and old roads where only locals dare to drive. Between major stops, we will visit some dazzling sightseeing points that will leave you speechless. Then I will drop you off. -The itinerary can be customized according to your preferences, please inquire. Some vineyards and wine cellars will close on bank holidays or special events where an alternative will be presented.
