Hi, my name is Raul, I am a native of the Yucatan and I am married with 2 kids. Since I was a young kid I have always loved history, languages and I think of myself as a very service oriented person. It is working as a tour guide that I feel fulfilled. I have a bachelor degree in hospitality and business management and I have been working in the tourism industry since I was in high-school. I am a certified tour guide since 2009 and I guide tours in Spanish, English and French in the whole of the southeast of Mexico. During my training to become a licensed guide I was guided around all the Mayan archeological sites of the Yucatan state by the archeologists who were on those years in charge of the restoration of those sites, I am also a member of a continuous education program focused on Mayan archeological sites of Mexico which is provided by the University of Yucatan (UADY) in agreement with the Tourism Bureau of the state (SEFOTUR). In 2018 I was awarded as the tour guide with the best reviews from clients by one of the best mexican travel companies and I have 10 year experience working for high-end british travel companies. Among the subjects I master and I am passionate about are: the ancient Maya civilization (I am a Mayan person myself), the unique natural formations of the Yucatan called "cenotes", the old colonial architecture of Mexico, the old sisal fiber plantations of the Yucatan and the common habits of the most common birds that come to the Yucatan peninsula to nest or to rest during their migrations from the north of the Americas to the south of the Americas. If you come to Progreso in a cruise ship I cannot pick you up at the cruise ramp but I can meet you at the LIGHTHOUSE of Progreso which is located right outside of where the cruiseship shuttle drops you off.

Overview of your Merida tour

Join me for the tour to amazing Chichen Itza, one of the Mayan marvels and one of the most fascinating and sophisticated ancient Maya cities that has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage site and let me show you why Chichen Itza has been declared a New Wonder of the World. We will also stop for a refreshing swim in one of the thousands of crystal clear water natural formations that are unique of Mexico called Cenotes. It is difficult to explain in words all the beauty when the afternoon sun shines on the water, and apart from the fantastic visual experience, this place is also great for swimming and learning more about the fantastic Mayan culture This is a tour that starts in the city of Merida and after our tour we will drive to your house or hotel in Riviera Maya (including Tulum and Playa del Carmen) or Cancun.

This was our third and final tour with Raul, and once again he delivered! It was an early start to the day to reach Chichen Itza, but so worth it to be ahead of the crowd (and the rain as it turned out!). What a site, we explored all parts of it and even though it was busy (one of the busiest UNESCO sites in Mexico), you could still take great photos without crowds in it. Once again Raul bought it to life for us and gave great perspective to what we were viewing. As we were also transferring to the coast at Tulum, our luggage was left locked in his vehicle and was all fine. We enjoyed our lunch stop at Mestizo Misterio Culinario, such a pretty setting and also our brief walking tour of Valladolid. Raul is a careful driver, and at no time did we feel uncomfortable. His vehicle is also the perfect size for 2 adults (with 2 big cases), there is plenty of leg room, air-con worked great and it was more then comfortable for the big driving day. Thank you Raul, you are the best!

We had such a great day with Raul, it really felt like traveling with a friend. He went above and beyond to make sure we had a pleasant day, including lending us his hat and parasol for chichen itza. He also took us to Ek Balam and guided us around there for no extra charge. He was very informative on the Mayan ruins and a pleasure to spend the day with. Thanks so much Raul!

If the perfect guide exists, you will find him here. We did 4 Yucatan excursions with Raul. As guide he is very knowledgeable , friendly and flexible. He explains in very good English, and visit archeological sites at your own pace. Giving you always the opportunity to take pictures. On top he is a very safe driver. We had a fantastic journey with Raul in Yucatan. It is nearly as relaxed as traveling with a friend. Highly recommended.

We would only visit Chichen Itza if we could arrive just after opening and leave before the buses from Cancun got there. Raul created a wonderful experience for us. We saw all the major buildings and a cenote with time to admire the scale and the details of this amazing city without a crowd in sight. Raul is organized, punctual, knowledgeable, personable, and a great communicator in English and Spanish. (We didn't try his French or Maya.) Raul is the TOP professional guide for the Yucatan!

Raul took us from Merida to Cancun and on the way we toured Chichen Itzen and a colonial city. Raul provided interpretations of the hieroglyphics and the use of the buildings at the ruins. He also told us about the Mayans during the colonial times and up to the present, giving us a much better understanding of the Mayan people and their history. Having been raised in Merida, Raul was also able and willing to share his story. Raul was flexible and we wholeheartedly recommend booking a tour with him.
