Hi, my name is Raul, I am a native of Merida and I am married with 2 children.

Since I was a young kid I have always loved history, languages and I think of myself as a very service oriented person. It is working as a tour guide that I feel fulfilled.

Among the subjects I master and I am passionate about are: the ancient Maya civilization (I am a Mayan myself), the unique natural formations of the Yucatan called "cenotes", the old colonial architecture of Mexico, the old sisal fiber plantations of the Yucatan and the common habits of the most common birds that come to the Yucatan peninsula to nest or to rest during their migrations from the north of the Americas to the south of the Americas.
In college I studied hospitality and business management and I have been working in tourism since I was in high school at age 17. My first jobs in tourism were in business hotels and boutique hotels in my home city (Merida), I worked in hotels for 10 years getting to become the customer's service and front desk manager in a couple of them. When I left the hotel business a friend of mine and I opened a small restaurant which I managed for 2 years. Since 2011 I have been working as a full time tour guide in the southeast of Mexico guiding Spanish, English and French speaking clients.

I am a certified tour guide since 2009. In 2014 I was awarded as the tour guide with the best reviews from clients by one of the best mexican travel companies and I have 10 year experience working for high-end british travel companies.

If you come to Progreso in a cruise ship I cannot pick you up at the cruise ramp but I can meet you at the LIGHTHOUSE of Progreso which is located right outside of where the cruiseship shuttle drops you off.

We'll discover the highlights of Merida, one of Mexico's oldest cities. If you choose to start this tour in the morning we can go for an authentic "Yucatecan" breakfast to one of its picturesque markets. The gastronomy of the Yucatan state is one of the poles of Mexican gastronomy, which was also the first in the world that was declared as World Heritage protected-by-UNESCO gastronomy (in the world there are only 5 gastronomical traditions that are protected by UNESCO).

We will visit Chichen Itza, one of the most fascinating and sophisticated ancient Maya cities that has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage site and I will do my best to show you why Chichen Itza has been declared a New Wonder of the World. After we see Chichen Itza we will go for a refreshing swim to a magical cenote and afterwards we will drive to the picturesque town of Izamal where we will see its old colonial architecture and the ancient pyramids that still remain in the center of the town.

We will discover one of the best preserved mangrove forests of Mexico. We'll take a boat that will take us into the nature reserve, here we will have a chance to see some of the birds that live and nest all year round in the coasts of the Yucatan such as pelicans, frigate birds, herons, egrets, etc. Eventually we will get to one of the many fresh water springs located in the middle of the mangrove forest, there we will have a chance to swim. After our tour in the reserve we will head to the town of Celestun where we will have a fresh lunch in one of the beach front restaurants.
