Hi, my name is Raul, I am a native of the Yucatan and I am married with 2 kids. Since I was a young kid I have always loved history, languages and I think of myself as a very service oriented person. It is working as a tour guide that I feel fulfilled. I have a bachelor degree in hospitality and business management and I have been working in the tourism industry since I was in high-school. I am a certified tour guide since 2009 and I guide tours in Spanish, English and French in the whole of the southeast of Mexico. During my training to become a licensed guide I was guided around all the Mayan archeological sites of the Yucatan state by the archeologists who were on those years in charge of the restoration of those sites, I am also a member of a continuous education program focused on Mayan archeological sites of Mexico which is provided by the University of Yucatan (UADY) in agreement with the Tourism Bureau of the state (SEFOTUR). In 2018 I was awarded as the tour guide with the best reviews from clients by one of the best mexican travel companies and I have 10 year experience working for high-end british travel companies. Among the subjects I master and I am passionate about are: the ancient Maya civilization (I am a Mayan person myself), the unique natural formations of the Yucatan called "cenotes", the old colonial architecture of Mexico, the old sisal fiber plantations of the Yucatan and the common habits of the most common birds that come to the Yucatan peninsula to nest or to rest during their migrations from the north of the Americas to the south of the Americas. If you come to Progreso in a cruise ship I cannot pick you up at the cruise ramp but I can meet you at the LIGHTHOUSE of Progreso which is located right outside of where the cruiseship shuttle drops you off.

We'll discover the highlights of Merida, one of Mexico's oldest cities, but we will also see the areas of Merida that are not very touristic such as the cemetery which is one of Mexico's oldest cemeteries. If you choose to start this tour in the morning we have the option of going for an authentic "Yucatecan" breakfast to one of Merida's picturesque markets. The gastronomy of the Yucatan state is one of the poles of Mexican gastronomy, which was also the first in the world that was declared as World Heritage protected-by-UNESCO gastronomy (in the world there are only 5 gastronomical traditions that are protected by UNESCO).

Did 2 prior trips with Raul before spending 14 days in the Yucatan. The last day Raul met me again for the final farewell of what I consider as a great friend. We spent the time in Merida and ended up our farewell treating Raul to a meal at one of the nice restaurants in the city. I would love to go back to visit with Raul again and see more. The Yucatan is a great place to visit.
Raul is the most personable, professional and friendly guide you will find (and a good driver too!). He helped us tailor this tour prior to us travelling and was completely flexible on the day when the heat / humidity was wearing us out. We were thankful for the gelato shop stop and that he had a vehicle to drive part of the way. Mérida is such a gorgeous town to explore, and it was made even more special when we had someone local to give it depth and perspective. Thank you Raul :)
This tour was unbelievable! Raul G. was amazing and I highly recommend him! He was a great communicator and kept me in the loop the whole process. He was very flexible and accommodate to my needs by customizing the tour per my request. He was also fair in the pricing. Raul was very knowledgeable of the entire Yucatan area and knew all the best spots. He was able to guide me so that we ended up having a great tour. Raul was fun and very personable! We had a family of 8, 4 adults and 4 kids and he knew exactly how to handle us and treated us the best way! Thank you Raul! Your friends from Louisville, KY and Mexico
Raúl was a fantastic guide! He was super patient, attentive to every request, and helped us craft a truly memorable three-day trip in Yucatán. His deep knowledge, professionalism, and warm personality made all the difference, and it’s clear he has a wealth of experience. On our first day, we explored Mérida’s highlights by walking and driving, and Raúl ensured we didn’t miss anything while bringing the city’s history and culture to life with fascinating context. Our group included two teenagers and three women, one of whom was very nervous about iguanas. Raúl was thoughtful and reassuring, making sure everyone felt comfortable and safe. His kindness and skill in handling different needs made our days smooth, engaging, and enjoyable for us all. We couldn’t have asked for a better start to our trip!
Merida is a beautiful city and Raul was the perfect guide. We had such a lovely time seeing the things that make Merida so special. We have a family member who has a disability and he was very accommodating and flexible.
