Hello! My name is Cristina, but most people call me Kitty. I was born and raised in Mérida, Yucatán, and I’ve been working as a professional tour guide for almost a decade — including 8 years of experience guiding with ToursByLocals. Guiding is not just my job; it’s something I genuinely love. Over the years, I’ve explored Yucatán deeply and from many angles, which allows each experience to be thoughtful, well-researched, flexible, and adapted to you and your interests. I work with small groups and private travelers, and I’m always happy to adjust the pace, focus, or structure of a tour depending on your interests. Many of my tours offer options within the itinerary, allowing you to choose how the day unfolds. I hold a National Tour Guide License issued by Mexico’s Ministry of Tourism (SECTUR), and I have a Bachelor’s degree in Arts with a specialization in Music from the Yucatán State Arts University. Throughout my career, I’ve also participated in cultural and community-based projects and volunteer work, which have helped me gain a deeper, more grounded understanding of local life and perspectives. This background allows me to share history and culture in a way that feels natural, engaging, and easy to connect with, always keeping the experience clear, balanced, and enjoyable for travelers. My vehicle is fully insured for travelers, and I can also assist with custom itineraries, special interests, and larger groups when needed. Please feel free to explore the tours I’ve carefully designed, and don’t hesitate to message me if you’re looking for something more personalized — I’ll be happy to help you create the experience that fits you best.

Start your day with a private tour from Mérida to Izamal, the Yellow City, exploring authentic local culture along the way. Our first stop is Tixkokob market, where you’ll enjoy a traditional egg panucho. Next, we visit Aké village, home to a working henequen-producing hacienda, where you’ll see the full process of turning henequen into rope and explore the historic hacienda. Afterward, we continue to Izamal for lunch at Kinich restaurant, followed by a visit to the pyramid and convent of Izamal. This tour combines gastronomy, local history, and authentic experiences in one day. Comfortable round-trip transportation and a certified local guide included. Want to personalize your tour? If you’re looking for a cultural immersion experience, look no further. Cristina provides all of this in her tour package and gives the total immersion experience by interacting with locals and showing you the secret places where most tours don’t take you. As someone who has been learning Spanish, I found this experience super helpful with learning new words and phrases that I would never learn in a classroom setting. Cristina is a great translator, teacher and storyteller. She makes things easy to learn and understand. I highly recommend booking a tour with her!
This tour was so much fun. Christina is an amazing local host, she will show you things that other travelers simply will not get to see and will make you feel safe the entire time. We thoroughly enjoyed every stop on this tour, it just felt like a truly authentic experience and the conversation with Christina was casual and informative the entire time. Highly recommend for an off the beaten path experience!
Kitty is the AMBASSADOR FOR MÉRIDA!!! My Friends and Family ADORE KITTY!!! She is AN AMAZING TOUR GUIDE!!!!
We don't usually take tours, so didn't know what to expect. This was fabulous. The tour was well thought out; the local market and delicious panuchos, followed by a really interesting tour of the hennequen operation, and finally a visit to Izamal and its famous monastery. Everywhere, Cristina knew local people and had arranged for our visit. Not a single hitch. And the included comida in Izamal was excellent. Cristina was uber-friendly and patient, and most importantly, knowledgeable, not only about the sites we visited, but everything else we asked her about. And her English is excellent. We highly recommend her as your guide.
We enjoyed our tour with Kitty. The highlights of the tour were the tour of the Hacienda and still active Sisal factory including a history of sisal production from traditional Mayan techniques, mechanical production from the era of steam engines to electrical with Jose Martinez. Jose speaks Spanish, but Kitty interprets when you need it and provides photos and videos to enhance the experience. Izamal is a magical city filled with ancient Mayan and Spanish history united with the modern life of the city. The restaurant, Kinich, was an unforgettable experience, refreshingly cool, able to provide interesting vegan options, & quite possibly the best meal we've had in 30 years of visits to the Yucatan Peninsula.
