Hi, my name is Raul, I am a native of the Yucatan and I am married with 2 kids. Since I was a young kid I have always loved history, languages and I think of myself as a very service oriented person. It is working as a tour guide that I feel fulfilled. I have a bachelor degree in hospitality and business management and I have been working in the tourism industry since I was in high-school. I am a certified tour guide since 2009 and I guide tours in Spanish, English and French in the whole of the southeast of Mexico. During my training to become a licensed guide I was guided around all the Mayan archeological sites of the Yucatan state by the archeologists who were on those years in charge of the restoration of those sites, I am also a member of a continuous education program focused on Mayan archeological sites of Mexico which is provided by the University of Yucatan (UADY) in agreement with the Tourism Bureau of the state (SEFOTUR). In 2018 I was awarded as the tour guide with the best reviews from clients by one of the best mexican travel companies and I have 10 year experience working for high-end british travel companies. Among the subjects I master and I am passionate about are: the ancient Maya civilization (I am a Mayan person myself), the unique natural formations of the Yucatan called "cenotes", the old colonial architecture of Mexico, the old sisal fiber plantations of the Yucatan and the common habits of the most common birds that come to the Yucatan peninsula to nest or to rest during their migrations from the north of the Americas to the south of the Americas. If you come to Progreso in a cruise ship I cannot pick you up at the cruise ramp but I can meet you at the LIGHTHOUSE of Progreso which is located right outside of where the cruiseship shuttle drops you off.

We will visit Chichen Itza, one of the most fascinating and sophisticated ancient Maya cities which has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage. We will get there when they open so we can be among the first people to go in and once we are in I will do my best to show you why Chichen Itza has been declared a New Wonder of the World. After our tour of Chichen Itza we will stop for a refreshing swim in one of the thousands of crystal-clear water cenotes located in the area (cenotes are natural formations that are unique of Mexico). Swimming in a cenote is considered one of the things we have to do in our life time according to the list "The one hundred things we have to do before we die". If by the end of these 2 activities you still have any energy left I will take you to one of the magical towns of Mexico called Izamal, where houses are painted in colors yellow and white.

Our experience with Raul was exceptional from start to finish. His communication was clear and thoughtful, and he even suggested an alternative tour to ensure we wouldn’t feel rushed getting back to port. This showed us right away that he genuinely cared about our experience. We kept our original plan, and thanks to him, everything worked out perfectly. We got off the ship early (about 10th in line), and Raul was already waiting at the meeting point. That early start helped us beat the crowds and traffic, allowing for a smooth, stress-free drive to Chichén Itzá. If you’re traveling from a cruise, he truly knows how to plan your day so you can fully enjoy it and still return on time. His vehicle was clean, spacious, and comfortable, and he had cold water ready for us. During the drive, he shared so much insight about the land, culture, and history that it felt like learning from someone who truly loves where he’s from, and not a scripted tour. Once we arrived, he was incredibly prepared with hats, umbrellas, and extra water, which made a huge difference in the heat. Traveling with kids can be tough, but he was patient, attentive, and flexible with our pace. He encouraged breaks when needed and never made us feel rushed. The entire experience felt private and personalized, not like a typical tour. Raul made sure everyone felt included, even when we needed to pause or move at a different pace. His explanations were engaging and easy to follow, and he added meaningful cultural context you wouldn’t get on your own. He also handled the newer entrance and ticketing process seamlessly. Beyond being knowledgeable, Raul is simply a kind and genuine person. He helped with photos, checked in on us throughout the day, and made sure we felt comfortable and safe at all times. That level of care made it easy to relax and fully enjoy the experience. On the way back, after he mentioned the region hadn’t seen rain in months, it actually began to rain. It was such a beautiful and memorable ending to an already amazing day. Raul is not just a great guide, but he’s someone who truly cares. If we return to the Yucatán, we would absolutely choose him again. Highly recommend.
Went with Raul for 3 days on a private tour by myself and him. This guy is the best you can get in my opinion. He knows all the history of the Mayan people and the news of modern day Mexico. We talked the entire time even learning about our families if you want. He will cater to all your needs and then some.
Raul was the perfect guide, knowledgable, friendly, patient and with a few small surprises...we spent 12 hours with him...the restaurant in Izamel was excellent...Highly recommend for a private tour!
This was the first of two days we spent with Raul . We visited Chitchen Itzá, then went on to swim in an cenote and to visit Izamal. It was a fantastic day out. Raul is a really really good guide. Well informed, easy to be with, good and safe driver and makes everything come alive. He made our time in the Yucatán really special. We were a couple and he was easy and fun to be with - we learned so much from him about the Yucatán as well about the places we visited. He is a family man and would be great if you had children with you, equally well if I were a solo traveller I would feel safe and relaxed spending a day with Raul.
We had a great day with Raul, and I enthusiastically recommend him as a guide. He’s very helpful, very knowledgeable and very personable; he interacted wonderfully with us and our two daughters (11 and 9). He helped us set up a great day at Chichen Itza, took us to a nearby cenote that was slightly off the beaten track and therefore much less crowded, and added a visit to Izamal and a top-notch Yucatan dinner. He also was very generous with his time even days after the tour, willingly providing tips on other worthwhile excursions. He’s a great guide and companion.
