This was the 3rd of 8 tours which I did with Raúl. I have to say that each one of our tours was so interesting and enjoyable that it felt like my favorite while it was occuring. This particular tour was unique in that it was the only one where we left Yucatán state. Prior to arriving in the city of Campeche, we stopped in two small towns of Campeche state, one of which was Becal - famous for the production of jipijapa hats in caves below the houses of the town. It was marvelous to meet one of the artisans, see the process and - ultimately - buy one of the hats! Raúl is a great conversationalist and the long drive into Campeche went by in a flash. The archeological museum in Fort San Miguel is well worth visiting and Raúl seemed to know something about every single item in their collection! He never overwhelms you with information, but he always is able to provide any details or explanation you require. Once again, Raúl picked a fine place for lunch, right on the Gulf of México, where the food was excellent as well as the prices. The walled central city was distinctive and worth the visit on its own (it an UNESCO World Heritage site). Oh, and we started the tour a bit later in the morning so that we would still be in Campeche for the sunset, which I highly recommend!
