My tours are about bringing you into up-close and personal contact with all that makes the Yucatan so special. I try to avoid the cookie-cutter itineraries, usual-suspect attractions and anything - yawn - cliché. The unusual, the heart-wrenching, the melancholy and the joyful. Spontaneity and serendipity are our travel companions. I love to create memorable outings that are win-win-win. For you, for the people we meet, and yes, for me also! A Canadian Yucatecan (my Yucatecan wife and two daughters say I'm more Yucatecan than they are) who has lived in the Yucatan for almost 40 years. I am passionate about the area's colonial history, its' people, language and food. It is my special talent to act as the bridge between my guests from abroad and locals; from talented artisans to lovely ladies that will teach you how to properly make a corn tortilla by hand to enjoying a home-cooked meal in a small village. The experience will be one you won't soon forget. Thirty-plus-year Resident of the Yucatan Published Author - Yucatecan Spanish Dictionary BCIT Hotel Mgmt Program Serial Entrepreneur Tours at archaeological sites will be done by a professional guide hired on site for that purpose. A driver with a federal tourism drivers license will accompany us in a vehicle that has been properly plated for tourism as per local law.

The yellow city of Izamal is photogenic and famous for it's monastery and Pope John Pauls historic visit. The building's atrium is the second largest in the Catholic world, after the Vatican. The nearby Kinich Kak Moo pyramid is lacking all it's decorative elements but is climbable and it's massive size rivals that of Teotihuacan outside Mexico City. Izamal is also home to La Virgen de Izamal, another miraculous apparition that enabled the catholics to convert the Mayans to Catholicism. One can visit the convent when it is open. During current pandemic times, it is closed except on special occasions and mass. The stops along the way could include (depending on availability, opening hours etc) many a small town, a colorful cemetery, an abandoned hacienda/plantation.
Pick up at your Merida location - Drive through interesting small towns to the most photogenic cemetery in the Yucatan - Stroll around, take photos and marvel at the colorful imagery all around you - Continue on to Izamal (25 minutes away) - Visit the monastery (if open), spend some time strolling the streets, take a ton of yellow photos, have a magnificent lunch at the award-winning Kinich restaurant (not included). Visit the local TallerMaya, a collection of locally handcrafted items alongside a small but representative folk art collection from around Mexico. - Enjoy a coconut ice cream on the square - Climb the massive Kinich Kak Moo pyramid to work off the calories ingested at lunch - Spend at least 2 hours here, maybe more. - Drive back to Merida (60 minutes) - Drop off at your Merida location If you have other preferences, please let me know and I will customise the tour
