Hi, my name is Raul, I am a native of the Yucatan and I am married with 2 kids. Since I was a young kid I have always loved history, languages and I think of myself as a very service oriented person. It is working as a tour guide that I feel fulfilled. I have a bachelor degree in hospitality and business management and I have been working in the tourism industry since I was in high-school. I am a certified tour guide since 2009 and I guide tours in Spanish, English and French in the whole of the southeast of Mexico. During my training to become a licensed guide I was guided around all the Mayan archeological sites of the Yucatan state by the archeologists who were on those years in charge of the restoration of those sites, I am also a member of a continuous education program focused on Mayan archeological sites of Mexico which is provided by the University of Yucatan (UADY) in agreement with the Tourism Bureau of the state (SEFOTUR). In 2018 I was awarded as the tour guide with the best reviews from clients by one of the best mexican travel companies and I have 10 year experience working for high-end british travel companies. Among the subjects I master and I am passionate about are: the ancient Maya civilization (I am a Mayan person myself), the unique natural formations of the Yucatan called "cenotes", the old colonial architecture of Mexico, the old sisal fiber plantations of the Yucatan and the common habits of the most common birds that come to the Yucatan peninsula to nest or to rest during their migrations from the north of the Americas to the south of the Americas. If you come to Progreso in a cruise ship I cannot pick you up at the cruise ramp but I can meet you at the LIGHTHOUSE of Progreso which is located right outside of where the cruiseship shuttle drops you off.

Overview of your Merida tour

We will start the day driving to the archeological site of Dzibilchaltun which was the capital of the kingdom where the city of Merida is located today. At Dzibilchaltun we will see and explain the meaning of the famous and sofisticated *Temple of the Seven Dolls*, we will see the holy cenote of this ancient settlement and discover the way it transitioned from an ancient Mayan city to a colonial town and how it got abandoned a few years after the conquest. After our walk around the archeological site we will drive to Merida to discover the old and modern city by walking and driving trough some of its streets.

Raul was a wonderful guide. So down to earth and accommodating. We told him where we wanted to go and he made it happen. I would highly recommend him. We came from the Margaritaville Cruise. The correspondence was seamless for pickup and drop off. Also very knowledgeable of the area. Thanks Raul, from the 5 of us ! Linda, Mary and Aaron, Jan and Simone! 😉

Raul did a fantastic job and I am impressed with his care and support for me and my family. We were a large group and Raul got us our very own bus and took us everywhere we wanted to go and he even suggested great places for us. We loved his commentary on the bus - he strikes a great balance of giving great detail and history and also letting us have free time to explore. I would recommend Raul to anyone. He did excellent with 3 generations keeping all 20 in my group entertained!

Raul was FABULOUS! We had such a good time with him! We were disappointed that the closest ruin sites were closed during our visit, but we managed to see all of the sites of Merida and had a great meal at a local cantina. He was thoughtful of our rather wide-ranging energy levels, and accommodated all of us. We can't wait to return and see the ruins!

We booked the Merida walking tour with Raul and he took us to visit the Main Cemetary and then walked around city to explore. A local of Merida, Raul has a deep knowledge of the city and provided us with inside information about the town where he grew up. We also visited Dzibilchaltun archeological site. For dinner, Raul suggested Restaurante Picheta in the Plaza Grande where we had great views of the Cathedral and Palacio Municipal from the rooftop sitting area. We highly recommend this tour from Raul.

Perfect local guide. Great communication. Customized itinerary. Went off the beaten path to a Cenote, boated through brackish waters, amazing tropical landscape, dip in the spring, Mayan Ruins, Pink Flamingos, local salt farm. Wish I could post pictures! When we come back we will be calling Raul! Five star guide. Vehicle was very clean and comfortable.
