Hello, my name is Pétur, and I would like to be your guide in Iceland. So why choose me as your guide? Am I any different from the other talented people here offering their services? Well, I'm probably the oldest of them, so I've been in the school of life for the longest time. And even though I'm 69, I try to stay in good shape by running and lifting weights. I started running 30 years ago when I noticed my weight was increasing steadily, around 0.5 kg a year, and I had to do something about it. Luckily, my body can still do it and is ready for action if needed. I was born in Iceland, and I have lived here my whole life, except for three years in Sweden as a young boy. I'm as local as they get and financially independent, which means I can do whatever I like. I enjoy being a guide, showing guests from other countries our magnificent island with all its natural wonders. That is why I quit my 9-to-5 job and decided to become a guide. I worked as a QESH manager for the Coca-Cola Company here in Iceland. Now, some of you might wonder what QESH stands for. It stands for Quality, Environmental, Health, and Safety. I had been working there for far too long, so I decided to resign. That was twelve years ago, and I founded my own little company, with me as the only employee, and bought a Van. Since then, I've been a guide, mostly working for other travel agencies. But after my wife's wise words-"Don't put all your eggs in one basket"-I also accepted an offer to become a lead auditor, auditing quality, environmental, health, and safety management systems in various companies. Interesting job, I know well after all my years as a QESH manager. With all this, I work as a contractor about 50/50. However, this meant I didn't develop my own guiding business as I had planned. The good thing is that no one likes audits in the summertime, when most tourists visit us. It is challenging to capture the attention of travelers visiting Iceland. Big companies in this business catch customers in their nets long before I have a chance. Now, I'm trying to change that with the help of Tours by Locals, and I'm creating tours to places I know so well. Most of my tours are similar to those offered by others. People like to visit the same places, so it's impossible to avoid that. But one of my tours is different. I like to take you out of the crowd and into my world and let you feel what it is like to be an Icelander. I'd like to take you through the areas where I was born and raised, then to other parts of Reykjavik, including neighboring towns you might not otherwise visit. I will show you where some Icelanders have lunch, and you can eat as much as you like of typical Icelandic home food. We will visit the wonderful open-air museum featuring old houses saved from destruction and relocated from the center of Reykjavik, each with its own story. You get to learn everything about our unique geothermal open-air swimming pools and take a swim. Finally, I will invite you to my home. I´m offering you the taste of Iceland. My qualifications: Certified Tourist Guide and a member of the Iceland Tourist Guide Association. Day Tour Provider, license issued by the Icelandic Tourist Board. Permit for Passenger Transport issued by the Icelandic Transport Authority.

Experience all the must-see places in the southwest part of Iceland: the Golden Circle with all its main attractions and the South Coast, formed by black sand in catastrophic floods of melted water from volcanic eruptions under the glaciers; Eyjafjallajökull, which erupted in 2010, shutting down all airports in Europe; and the best glacial and seacliff waterfalls. This is a two-day tour that includes an overnight stay at Hella, Hvolsvöllur, or in the area of the town of Vík. I have a new Mercedes-Benz minibus for up to 16 people. Please note that the price for the tour is for eight people, and 50$ will be added per person up to 16.

Everything was perfect and Beautiful
Petur was absolutely the best guide our group could have gotten! I did research before choosing him and we are so happy we chose him. Very knowledgeable about everything we saw. We did the Rekeynes peninsula and Blue Lagoon, followed by the South Coast and the Golden Circle. Weather was not great, but he made it possible for us to see the beauty of Iceland through his eyes. I would highly recommend Petur for any tour or adventure in Iceland!!!
On Aug 12, 2023 our party of 8 were greeted promptly by Petur at our hotel. For the next 12+ hours he treated us as family. He proudly showed us geysers, the back side of a waterfall. we walked on a glacier, fed horses, visited the tectonic plates and saw the Black beach. From the moment we met Petur we knew we were in for great day. He never rushed us or tossed off any questions. All of us would recommend Petur as a guide if you are visiting Iceland.
Petur was wonderful, knowledgeable and accommodating. We booked a tour with our three teenage children towards the end of our stay. Petur moved to make sure they were having fun and interested in the beautiful sites, pointing out items of note and previously unknown historical facts. He also brought us to fun local spots for delicious ice cream and an amazing tomato farm with a lovely and charming restaurant. We were lucky to have been able to spend a full day with him!
Petur did a great job of accommodating our group consisting of my wife and I (73 yrs old and kind of slow moving), our very fit daughter in law and grandson. He is very knowledgeable about everything Iceland, answering questions and and providing narrative including telling stories as we drove between stops. He was great at customizing the tour for us making it a highlight of our 3 week trip to N Europe. I highly recommend Petur and Tours By Locals to anyone wanting an unforgettable experience in Iceland.
Day one: - Pick you up in the morning at your location. - The Thingvellir National Park. Probably the best place on earth to see what happens when two tectonic plates diverge. - Geysir and his little brother Strokkur, the spouting hot spring. - Gullfoss glacial waterfall. - Hella, Hvolsvöllur, or Vík for the night. We have options to stop at the Efstidalur farm for homemade ice cream, Secret Lagoon, and Friðheimar tomato farm. Day two - Seljalandsfoss and Gljúfrabúi waterfalls - Skógarfoss waterfall - Sólheimajökull outlet glacier - Reynisfjara - Black beach - Back home to Reykjavik You will need to book a hotel in Hella, Hvolsvöllur, or the Vík area, as well as arrange for accommodation for me. In the wintertime, we can have a good chance to see the northern lights away from the city lights in Reykjavik.
