Hi, I am Sigga and I'm a guide in Iceland. I grew up in Reykjavik but spent summers at a farm in the countryside where I really learned to love and appreciate the Icelandic nature. I herded cows, fed lambs and mowed fields in between hours of wading streams, making "homes" in caves, climbing rock formations and playing with the elves. I am a mother of twins and when they were growing up we loved travelling together in Iceland; camping, hiking, skiing and taking a dip into pools or hot springs. It is such a privilege being so close to untouched nature. Although I like my name, Sigríður (meaning victory), It can be a mouthful for foreigners. So when I first lived abroad I took the nickname Sigga, which made life a lot easier for my foreign friends, many of whom I have guided in Iceland. When living abroad I would long for the Icelandic nature, the magnificent Icelandic views and the fresh air. The closeness to nature is what I value the most about our scarcely populated country. During stressful times in my life and when I need to recharge I escape to nature. I had a few professional roles before becoming a guide. In my "previous lives" I was a flight attendant, worked in film and television, anchored TV news, ran an outdoor cafe by the sea, volunteered for NGO's and managed construction projects. But nothing gives me as much fulfillment as sharing with others the great nature and history of Iceland. I am proud to be part of the ToursByLocals team and look forward to welcoming you as a guest on my tours and share with you my personal knowledge of my wonderful country, its history, landscapes and culture Licensed Professional Driver qualified to drive up to 50 passengers First aid course Fully licensed vehicle by the Icelandic Transport Authority Fully licenced Travel Agency by the Icelandic Tourist Board MA in Journalism from Bournemouth University PGC from the Institute of Family Therapy in Malta I am not a qualified glacier guide and will hire such services upon request.

West of Iceland has such magnificent views. A glacier, waterfalls, lava fields and volcanos with charming little fishing villages along the coast and breathtaking views all around the Snæfellsnes peninsula. In this tour, we stop at Ytri-Tunga, a home to seals, the Black Church at Budir - the most beautiful church in Iceland they say. At the tip of the peninsula we see Snæfellsjökull glacier with its mystical energy looming over the villages of Hellnar and Arnarstapi. Djúpalónssandur is a beautiful beach where men tested their strength. We'll see Mount Kirkjufell, one of the settings in Game of Thrones and the town of Grundarfjordur where elves, or the hidden people, have a special place. The Snæfellsnes peninsula is one of my favourite areas and I love to show my guests around this beautiful part of Iceland.
I like to start this tour rather early. We start by driving north to Borgarnes, and there the adventure begins. Soon you will see young lava and volcano craters, cinder cones and basalt columns. We look carefully at the weather forecast because the Snæfellsnes peninsula can be done in different ways and we want to enjoy the best weather possible during the day. This means we are not doing the tour, in the same way, every time. In fact, I like to adjust it to our guest's needs every time. That makes the tour more personal and special. Snæfellsnes is not only the area of a glacier, volcano, waterfalls, and breathtaking beaches. It is also known for great sagas and stories of Vikings, trolls, outlaws and berserks!
