Hi, I am Sigga and I'm a guide in Iceland. I grew up in Reykjavik but spent summers at a farm in the countryside where I really learned to love and appreciate the Icelandic nature. I herded cows, fed lambs and mowed fields in between hours of wading streams, making "homes" in caves, climbing rock formations and playing with the elves. I am a mother of twins and when they were growing up we loved travelling together in Iceland; camping, hiking, skiing and taking a dip into pools or hot springs. It is such a privilege being so close to untouched nature. Although I like my name, Sigríður (meaning victory), It can be a mouthful for foreigners. So when I first lived abroad I took the nickname Sigga, which made life a lot easier for my foreign friends, many of whom I have guided in Iceland. When living abroad I would long for the Icelandic nature, the magnificent Icelandic views and the fresh air. The closeness to nature is what I value the most about our scarcely populated country. During stressful times in my life and when I need to recharge I escape to nature. I had a few professional roles before becoming a guide. In my "previous lives" I was a flight attendant, worked in film and television, anchored TV news, ran an outdoor cafe by the sea, volunteered for NGO's and managed construction projects. But nothing gives me as much fulfillment as sharing with others the great nature and history of Iceland. I am proud to be part of the ToursByLocals team and look forward to welcoming you as a guest on my tours and share with you my personal knowledge of my wonderful country, its history, landscapes and culture Licensed Professional Driver qualified to drive up to 50 passengers First aid course Fully licensed vehicle by the Icelandic Transport Authority Fully licenced Travel Agency by the Icelandic Tourist Board MA in Journalism from Bournemouth University PGC from the Institute of Family Therapy in Malta I am not a qualified glacier guide and will hire such services upon request.

Overview of your Reykjavik tour

A spectacular view of the most scenic glaciers, volcanos and waterfalls in the country. This tour takes us from Reykjavik to the South Coast of Iceland where we explore some of the countries most picturesque landscapes. Mount Hekla (believed in the old days to be the Gateway to Hell) is one of Iceland's most active volcanos. Last erupting in 2000 and long overdue for another lava show. We also pass Eyjafjallajökull and the volcano that stopped air traffic in large parts of the world in 2010. With the Atlantic Ocean, black sand beaches and ancient sea cliffs on one side, we have beautiful waterfalls, glaciers, viking history and farmlands on the other. There are some beautiful places a bit off the main route that I love to show my guests, adding a little bit of unplanned surprise and originality to the tour. Weather can be a factor we might need to consider, but there are interesting alternatives we can explore in case.

Fantastic tour of the south coast with Sigga. Even though it rained pretty much all day we had a fabulous time. The highlight was driving up to the top of Dyrholaey to see the Atlantic Puffins nesting on the cliff. Sigga was extremely personable and a lot of fun to talk to. Highly recommend her.

Great day learning and experiencing amazing sites with Sigga. She is extremely kind, friendly, and fun. I strongly recommend her and know you will leave your experience/time with her wanting to spend another day learning more about Iceland.

We toured Iceland for three days with Sigga. What an amazing time! She personalized the tour for us—four adults and two kids (ages 7 and 12)—and curated our experiences over three days. We'll be talking about walking into (getting soaked at...) Gljúfrabúi and "washing" our hands in glacial water at Sólheimajökull for years to come! We loved Sigga's personal stories and informative discussions at all the sites. She's also a great photo taker—this will be one of our best documented family trips ever! Sigga went above and beyond every day!

This is the second tour we did with Sigga in 3 days. What an amazing tour! Sigga customized and changed things up on the fly depending on what we wanted to see as we drove along. Black beach, super waterfalls, saw Puffins, plus much more. Sigga knows where to go and what to see to avoid the large crowds. We would recommend Sigga to anyone heading to Reykjavik!

My family had the most wonderful day with our guide. Our group included people who could not take all the trails and the time, patience and attention given by Sigga made for a very comfortable experience. We were limited to one day of touring and she was able to fit in the best highlights including a incredible lunch at a local restaurant. After a 12+ hour day and enjoying as much as we did, everyone was inspired to return someday and enjoy Iceland again.

This was our third tour with Sigga, and it was the third wonderful day we spent with her! We loved the waterfalls and the views from the cliffs in the nature reserve were especially wonderful (we even saw puffins close up). Sigga knows the territory very well and is always willing to share her knowledge and also to bring us to extra spots, like the fun "bra farm". Despite the rain, we loved the walks by the waterfalls, including behind one fall and around a gorge. Totally recommend this tour!

Your Reykjavik tour itinerary

I recommend an early start to this tour as we have a long day ahead of us. We pass some breathtaking waterfalls in the area such as Seljalandsfoss where we walk along the trail behind it and then into a small and magical canyon to see Gljúfrabui. By Skógarfoss it is also possible to observe the powerful waterfall from above by taking the stairs to the observation deck We'll have lunch at a small charming restaurant in Vik. Cape Dyrhólaey and the Black Sand Beaches at Reynisfjara are one of Iceland's most spectacular landscapes of rock formations and ancient sea cliffs, with sparkling black sands slipping away into the sea. This tour can be customised on request.
