My name is Elly and I am a certified driver/guide and would love to show you around my beautiful country; Iceland. I have been working as a tour guide since 2015. Before that I did various things such as; living in Arizona for a year while my husband earned his MBA at ASU; working for an airline; teaching and for 15 years I ran a couple of home center stores located in the 2 shopping malls of the capital area. That required a lot of indoor work so when I sold the stores in 2014 I decided to do something entirely different and enrolled at the University of Iceland to get my certification as a tour guide. Before that, sometime last century, I had finished my B. A. in English and for my master's degree got my teacher's credentials. As it turned out I did not teach for long since me and my husband decided to buy the home center stores shortly after. Nevertheless, it actually proved to come in handy to have my teacher's credentials later on during the pandemic when I went back to teaching temporarily. My interests are pretty basic; first and foremost my family. I am married and we have 3 grown up children and I am a very busy grandmother to 4 grandchildren, ages 2, 4, 6 and 10. They occupy my free time. Other interests are travelling, photography, geography and reading. I dabble at golfing. My interest in geography led me to an incredible adventure earlier this year. I applied for a volunteer park ranger position at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park on the Big Island. I spent 3 months working there and it really expanded my horizon regarding everything that has to do with volcanoes and as a bonus I learned that we had much more in common than volcanoes, that island culture had a lot of similarities. I am not going to try to hide the fact that the location of the park was very important, who does not dream of going to Hawaii? Summary: A friendly and enthusiastic tour guide with over 8 years of experience in leading groups of tourists around various destinations in Iceland. Skilled in creating engaging and informative tours that showcase the local culture, history, geography and attractions. Passionate about sharing my knowledge and love for travel with others. Tour guide/private tour guide/driver guide Various tours ranging from day tours to specialized tours around Iceland from 2015-present Skills: Tour planning and organization Customer service and communication Language skills; Icelandic: fluent English: fluent Cultural awareness and sensitivity Problem-solving and troubleshooting

We will start by visiting Thingvellir National Park which is a Unesco World Heritage Site and is also one of the places in Iceland where you can see the North American tectonic plate meet the Eurasian tectonic plate. There is also a beautiful waterfall there; Öxarárfoss. The waterfall plays an important role in "The Game of Thrones. " From Thingvellir we will carry on to the hot spring area; home of Geysir, our world famous hot spring. Usually a good place for a lunch stop. Whenever I take my grandchildren there they opt for the "lamb meat soup. " After that it is time to go to the Golden Waterfall; one of Europe's most powerful waterfalls. A popular extra stop on the way back to Reykjavik is "Kerid"; a crater. Admission not included.
During our day we will visit: - Thingvellir National Park, just about 45 min drive from Reykjavik and we will spend about an hour there. - Geysir hot spring area, almost an hour's drive from the National Park and an hour and a half is suitable for our stop there in order to both see the hot spring area and to have a leisurely lunch. - The Golden waterfall, only 10 min drive from the hot spring area and an hour's stop there. From there we will head back to Reykjavik, just about an hour and a half drive. Tour can be customized as per your wishes.
