Hi, and welcome to Reykjavik! My name is Dofri and I'll be your tour guide in this beautiful land I call home. I grew up both in Reykjavik and on the country side. At the farm (we bred sheep and riding horses) I learned to appreciate the nature. Still, today, when I feel stressed out, I go out hiking. Nature has a way of calming the mind and show you what really matters. I have spent most of my adult years in Reykjavik and I love the way it can be both a small village and a vibrant city at the same time. I try to combine the best of those two worlds and I am lucky because in just a half an hour drive from Reykjavik you can be out in beautiful nature if you know where to go. If you like the remote, unspoiled nature of the volcanoes, I would love to show you some of my favorite secret places. I have done many different things in my life. I am an actor, I have an MSc in Applied Economics, I have been active in nature preservation campaigns in Iceland and I also participated in Icelandic politics for a while. I am also a member of Search and Rescue volunteers team in Iceland, a good way both to learn how to cope with nature and to give back to the society. I am passionate about my island, I respect the history of the people living here since and I love to share both the heritage and the scenery of nature with small groups of people. I like to think of me as a host rather than a guide and my customers as my guests. Coming on a tour with me should be like visiting an old friend in Iceland that takes you out to show you around. I look forward to showing you my country and tell you a bit about the people, the folklore, trolls, elves and outlaws. :) A fully qualified and active search and rescue member of the Icelandic Search and Rescue Association in Iceland (ICE-SAR - Landsbjörg). 20 years experience as a tour guide. Qualified to drive vehicles with up to 50 passengers. I am not qualified as a glacier guide and will there for hire such services upon a request.

In 2009, I was made aware of the possibility of eruptions breaking out near Reykjavik and the international airport in Keflavik. I started reading more about this area and taking long hikes in the mountains and lava fields. When I started offering tours, this tour was the first one - a theoretical tour about how an eruption at the Reykjanes peninsula could act out. Well, then it started to happen! On this tour, you can hear more about this, but most of all, see wonderful, off-the-beaten-path places most visitors will never see. Of course, with eruptions happening frequently now, there might be restrictions on where we can go and I value your safety (and mine) above all things. If this tour interests you, and you perhaps want to use it as a pickup/dropoff, just send me a message and we will take it from there.
In all the years I’ve traveled with TBL we’ve had some really great tour guides. Dofri was the best of all!!
Our family (2 adults and 2 children) had a fabulous time with Dofri and his daughter (our junior tour guide!). I gave Dofri some ideas about what would be of interest to my kids and asked that he take us to some interesting places that weren’t standard tourist stops. He planned a fabulous day for us and enjoyed the company, conversations, and sights. It was a great day! We highly recommend Dofri!
Our guide, Dofri, picked us up from KEF airport by 7 am, took us for coffee and pastry, and we were off and running! We couldn't believe how beautiful the scenery was even before sunrise...which doesn't happen until 10am this time of year. Snow-covered fields and hills, Icelandic horses and the occasional plume from a hot spring. We walked over snowy fields and experienced a hot spring or two bubbling and steaming into the air. We toured colorful lava caves and underground lava tubes. Gorgeous.
It was wonderful to have Dofri pick us up at the airport early in the morning after our overnight flight. We loved the tour prior to drop off at our hotel; it was a great way to learn more about Iceland and spend time prior to check in at our hotel. Dofri was very knowledgeable as well as personable. His English is excellent and the vehicle was comfortable and spacious. We were happy that we had already booked a full day tour for the following day.
We booked Dorfi for back to back tours of the Golden Circle and Reykjanes Peninsula with airport pick up ( both days as we had 2 parties of 2). He was very accommodating, with pick up at the airport and hotel on the 2nd day. Our Reykjanes Peninsula tour was very interesting. Dorfi is super knowledgeable about the local area, geology and environmental factors as well as a very experienced guide. He is a very engaging guide and so easy to chat with to get to Know. He really set the bar high for our tours!
There should be a rating higher than 5 for Dolfi! Excellent guide! Great communication and interpersonal skills. Knowledgeable, but does not overwhelm the customer with details, BUT enough to make it all make sense. A wonderful example of a Tours By Locals guide! Highly recommend!
This tour is never exactly the same from one time to another. I like to be flexible to suit the tour to the needs, wants and abilities of the group each time. The weather is also always a major factor in outdoors tours in Iceland and I try to pick the best stops according to weather. However, what we always do is drive up to the volcanoes, explore the lava, learn a bit about the activity underneath. We always take some "road less traveled" for I love to show my guests my favorite "hidden" places up in the volcanoes. I will tell stories of trolls, Vikings, hidden people and give you an insight into how it was to live on this island throughout the centuries. We will do some light hiking if you like to, enjoy some fantastic views and experience the remoteness of this moonlike landscape.
Tell your guide which places matter to you, skip what doesn't, and tailor the experience for your group's needs. Not finding what you want? Message your guide to build something unique.
For 4 people or fewer, I may use a medium size 4x4 that seats 4 passengers. Most often though, I use my new Mercedes Benz minivan with comfortable leather seats for up to 9 passengers.
