Since I was a teenager I have been travelling around Iceland in my free time - and even today that is what I do when I'm on holiday. Iceland is a endless treasure chest - filled with nature, history and geology, plus of course, stories of people, elves and other Icelander's, and there's always something new to see. I love showing people my beautiful country, so working as a tour guide is my dream job. I started working as a tour guide many years ago, around 1990, but just as a side job. However, from the beginning of 2022, I have been doing it full time. I've been working in tourism for many years, teaching in the icelandic guiding schools, working in safety in tourism and in search and rescue. I'm also a bestseller author of books about Iceland, so travelling and tourism have been my life. My favorite thing is to guide people who are interested in our nature, history and geology, and I love to tell people about those things, but also about things that make us Icelanders unique. For example, how is it to live in a country with so many eruptions and earthquakes. How can we live here in winter when we only have a few hours of daylight? Do we really have daylight 24 hours a day in summer? And lets not forget about the elves - do Icelanders believe in elves? I look forward to take you on one of my tours and tell you about what makes Iceland like no other country in the world, and of course, tell you some stories along the way. Who knows - maybe we will add an extra unexpected stop! I am a Licenced Tour Guide in Iceland, and possess a Hiking Guide License too. I also have a Day Tours permit, as well as permit to transport tourists in my own vehicle - LandRover Defender (4 pax) but I also have access to other vehicles for more passengers if needed. Love to make customize tours so don't hesitate to contact me. I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Rural Tourism, which further helps me to create good experience for my guests. I have been an active member of Search & Rescue for 35 years, as well as working in search and rescue too, by teaching about safety in Tourism, outdoors, first aid, orienteering and more for many, many years. On this day tour we will visit the Reykjanes peninsula - shaped by volcanic activity - been dormant for 800 years but became active again in 2021 and again in 2022. Expect to see something very different from other areas in Iceland since the peninsula is famous for its lunar landscape - black lava more and less. We will visit some of the most interesting places in the Reykjanes peninsula and of course the new lava from the eruption in 2022 and still warm (april 2023) in many places. The black lava - not with a single shred of vegetation will give the colour black a new meaning. We can walk a short distance to the lava or further on to see more - even some of the craters that erupted here in 2021 and 2022. Decided on site when we see how the weather is and what we are up to. The Seltún / Krýsuvík geothermal area is another stop and the Brimketill lava pool and lets not talk about the fact that at the Bridge between the continents you will in 3 seconds go from America to Europe - no passport control.
I will pick you up at your accommodation in Reykjavík and we have around 30 - 40 minutes drive to our first stop. Seltún geothermal area is so very different from the very black peninsula - full of colours and hot springs and yes - very much of sulfur smell as well but ever so beatiful - lets remember to pay attention to the details. After a short drive we are at the lava from the newest eruption here in Iceland - still smoky and hot in some places (april 2023) and only about 800 meters walk (0, 5 mile). Very dramatic and even beatiful in its rough shape. We can walk further - decided on spot After a drive through the fishing village of Grindavík to Brimketill lava pool - shaped by erosion from the sea We stop where the continental divide starts - in a way and on a bridge we will walk from Europe to America - and back And our last stop. . . let's barbeque a icelandic hot dog in a hot spring - you have never tried that before - and the volcanic craters at our "restaurant" are very beatiful so the scenery
